New Purchase - My First Colonial!

I think I've got numismatic attention deficit disorder. I decided late last year to focus on my Half Cent type set in 2015. So, I'm looking for a nice draped bust half cent the other day at earlycopperoins, when I see a Kentucky Token listed. I tell myself, hey that looks nice, but I'm focused on my Half Cent type set. This is where my numismatic ADD kicks in. Long story short, after keeping lazer like focus on my Half Cent type set for almost 2 weeks of the new year, I decided to pull the trigger and bought it.




It's the plain edge variety, which is the most common, but that's fine by me because I don't have the budget to go after the rare varieties.

It's the first colonial I've ever had. Eventually, I've always thought it would be interesting to put together a basic Colonial type set, but that's more of a long-term goal for later...then again, I guess I kind of just started it!

I love the Kentucky tokens, and this one is particularly nice. These often were poorly struck in the OUR CAUSE IS JUST area, but not the case here. I think these are greatly undervalued.

I was very close to buying a lower grade Elephant token colonial at FUN that was reasonably priced...

I bet I was looking at that same coin.
It's one that's fascinated me ever since my first Redbook.

In fact it drove me TO the Redbook to look it up since I haven't thought about it til seeing it offered.

Their description of it as primarily an English token changed my mind.

That thing SHOULD be an American Colonial thing and I guess it is considered as such, but the English connection just stopped me.

I had always hoped that Dan'l Boone carried those to buy gunpowder and lead.

Darn it.

It IS a cool coin.
