2015 and 2016 Proof American Eagle Design Candidates

The 2015 and 2016 Platinum Proof Designs are a great improvement from the previous series 2009-2014. I only bought the 2013 Platinum Proof because I think it was one of the better designs. I did own the 2009 and 2010 but decided I did not want to collect the entire series later on.

The 2014 Platinum Proof sold on 4606 which I suspect had much to do with the poor design. I will be interesting to see what the 2015 platinum proof sales will be.

It seem the mint is trying to go back to some more retro designs as shown on by the design design AEP-R-17 which was rejected because of the lettering could not be executed in platinum.

The other design candidates are pretty atrocious and seem to more like filler than anything else to make the CAC recommendations really stand out more.

If my budget allows I may be buying the 2015 Platinum Proof this year.

There are some good ones and a lot of lousy ones. Not sure what I like best, but collecting the plats has always been of my radar, anyway.

I liked these the best, whereas there are several that I didn't like at all.
A little tough to tell just how they would truly look from these pictures.

Some interesting designs. Loved the one they killed (naturally).

Proof platinums may be the future of American coin design. Too bad they are so bloody expensive!

The US Mint is in serious need of a new group of artists. None of the designs are really good , some are really awful .

I like several of the designs a lot.
I do not strongly dislike any of them.
Overall, the plats have had the best designs of any US issues over the last few years in my opinion.

I see some clipart, I see Liberty in some awkward-looking poses and I see some political correctness that would cause me to stop collecting Plats altogether.

Even in the nicer selections that they chose, the main focal devices have cluttered backgrounds that serve no real purpose. It's as if they keep trying to satisfy several constituencies all in the same coin, over and over again.

Liberty standing in the breeze with a torch on some distant patch of ground while hand-feeding an eagle that is walking/starting to fly on top of the globe with a clipart sunburst in the background? I'm kinda missing the point.

And the 2016 design - it had some artistic potential, but what's the eagle doing flying behind Liberty's legs instead of in the sky?
