QA, the newest slab grader

EagleEyeEagleEye Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭✭✭
QA is a sticker program by our own Segoja. It is for modern issues. They were very active promoting the new service here at the FUN show. I wish them the best of luck in their new venture.

Are they making a market in what they sticker? Sight unseen?

Thanks guys! We are up and running and we will be at Long Beach.

Yes we will support the market. We can't buy every single coin out there, just as no dealer makes a market in an entire segment of the market, especially one as big as 1/2 the graded coins that PCGS and NGC have graded over the last 28+ years. No one would ever have enough money to buy everything.

Lots of cool things that we are doing, but this is not the forum to advertise in.

Happy to answer questions via PM

I can't think of anyone who would do a better job in this market segment. I've had a few excellent transactions with James. Best of luck.

Love to hear more about it since I'm a modern collector!

Wonder how it will change the modern coin market?

Are there any members of this board that are at FUN and have made submissions to QA while there? If so, can you share your experience?

Would like to see the fourth party graders maintain an open database which also shows the submitted coins that failed their criteria.

Until then it is only half of a service. Though I have high regard for the grading abilities of at least a few of the players, it is time for them to go all in!

Thanks, but No. I already have a hard time to see the grade on the slab with all those COOL, PQ, CAC stickers.
  • Well, with you on one hand and MAC on the other - certifying 50 different kinds of die poop - the choice is kind of clear. image

  • Not sure the point without the protection and marketability similar to Cac. Segoja's not so polished (no body can buy them all) statement isn't very confidence inspriing even if it is true and similar in scope of not sound to Cac's (will make offers). Not my market so I have no clue if CAC reason for not doing them was (cost vs benefit) or staffing.

While I agree in theory confidence could be increased with a higher "yes we will try and buy our coins" ultimately this is just an opinion like pcgs and ngc- both of whom do not purchase their own product.

may the fonz be with you...always...

Also- there is another "new kid on the block" that is also doing moderns and is called MAC.

it is being run by Allen Hager

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

What is QA's definition of modern coinage?
I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.

With the exception of recently graded copper and 70 graded silver eagles, do they not still buy back over graded coins?

A niche for the scratch. What's good enough for Susan B. Anthony is good enough for me , when it comes to passing the buck.
  • How will QA approach the problem of milk-spotting? Will there be a guarantee?

MAC has a full page ad in the January 19th issue of Coin World. I believe that it is being started up by Alan Hager of ACCUGRADE. I don't recall him ever having won the PCGS Grading contest though, can anyone provide any more info on this subject as to when this happened?

Good luck to these companies, but all I need is one third party (e.g. PCGS/NGC) opinion. Don't need a fourth one. Before you know it, there will be a CAC for CAC and a QA for QA and a MAC for a MAC. Where does it stop? It is ultimately the responsibility of the collector to know the coins he/she collects and learns to judge a coin on his/her own. In the end, I will spend my money on more coins rather than these fourth party things.

Without going into any details (because litigation by the sue-happy attorneys cry-baby Hager uses whenever he feels slighted is a very real possibility), who would you rather entrust your coins to?

    Ginger or Mary Ann?

If you mean Alan Hager of ACCUGRADE image he is hardly a "new kid on the block."

I am waiting on my QA application (I just requested it today) and plan to send my 48 coin set of Blast White 1946 - 1964 PCGS MS66FB Roosevelt Dimes to James for his new QA Approval sticker.

I haven't actually looked at these coins in years so I guess I will go to the SDB and check them out prior to mailing them off for QA Approval.

    GDH Roosevelt Dimes

As I recall mine was the 1st set in the registry to achieve 100% FULL BAND Status. When PCGS started recognizing FB I sent most of my set for designation review,,,,, I think it was only $5 or so per coin at the time. Most of them made FB and I later purchased the other coins that I needed to make the set 100% FB image

Had some help from a guy named STOOGE getting the final coin for my set.
