Traveling Suspects Arrested

Two suspects have been arrested for selling fake Suisse Pamp carded gold bars(2.5gm, 5gm,10gm and 1 ounce) at a coin shop in Greenwood, Indiana. Search of the suspects vehicle revealed multiple identification cards, business and pamphlets from different coin shops and an additional 250 fake gold bars and coins. Based upon receipts located in the vehicle the suspects had been selling the fake gold to shops in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana since September, 2014.

The suspects were driving a silver Ford Focus with Missouri license plates. The suspects are being held for Theft by Deception.

    Thats all that they can be charged with? I would think and hope much more. What's the maximum penalty for that? Knowing today's sentencing, probation, fine and time served. Arghh.

    Why's that? Is it because the items were sold "in person"? Would it be a bigger crime if the items had been sold thru the internet and gone thru USPS? Not being a smart alec, Just trying to learn the differences and why it's a light penalty the way they did it.
    To forgive is to free a prisoner, and to discover that prisoner was you.

    This report on the above was bulk mailed on the dealer-to-dealer network by a dealer in Indiana:

    Buyer beware, see below. These suspects are currently being held in the Johnson County, Indiana jail. If you have purchased any carded Suisse Pamp gold bars, 2.5 g, 5 g, 10 g or 1 ounce, between September 2014 to January 2015 from Arron Taylor of West Union, IL check them out, open them and test them. These guys were arrested in our store/parking lot on Tuesday 1/6/2015. The story posted by Numismatic Crimes is below. If you have any info or think you may have purchased these, please contact the Greenwood Police Department or Doug from Numismatic Crimes as per the contact info below.

The first suspect is Arron Taylor, of Western Union, IL presenting an IL ID card. The second suspect never came into the store, but was identified as Nelson Hernandez alias Benjamin Wade.

    I guess they could be charged with:
    Fraud, Theft, Interstate transportation
    of conterfeit goods, etc. I'm sure there's
    a bunch of charges that could be filed
    against them.

    Federal charges would carry more weight if a tough prosecutor wanted to make an example of them. The old motto on Colonial currency--"to counterfeit is death".

    Since it's a non-violent crime they'll get a slap on the wrist.

    Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
