The money isn't there, but the coolness factor is. I'd be excited too.

    That is cool!
I would love to find one in circulation just for the novelty of it.

Reminds of the time back around 1975 when I went to the bank to cash my weekly summer paycheck and was given 4 or 5 crisp $10 silver certificates series 1934. The notes had no creases or folds. The serial numbers were very close together. I suspect someone broke open an old stash. My 2 local dealers offered me from $10.00-$10.50 each. I chuckled and said no thanks. I went out and spent them. I learned early on that selling anything to the local shops was an exercise in futility.

It's always fun to find something obsolete in actual circulation, even if not "worth" very much, I've seen the occasional $1 silver cert. over the years and one time a $5.

Another time I went to spend a $10 and the clerk looked at it funny, tried their pen on it, and finally decided it was counterfeit. I noted that it was a genuine series 1950 $10, just obsolete, here, I'll take it back and pay with a different bill, but they wanted to call the cops anyway?? Well they let me off with a stink eye, I ended up giving the bill to a friend who was getting started in numismatics.

Ivy Baker Priest was our Senior Class President at the school I teach at. I buy these by the multiple dozens with her sig as Treasurer, and hand them out as prizes for good performance on tests and quizzes in my English classes. So . . . . . silver certs are super cool, but I don't plan on getting rich off them --- particularly since I give 75-100 away a year.

I buy them for $1.50-$1.75 or so in decent shape. A high school kid doesn't care if it is CU -- they just think it is a cool prize to win.

Oh -- Ivy Baker's daughter was the blonde on "The Munsters". Interesting trivia. She was also the lead in our school play -- and one of the first female grads of the University of Utah Law School. Worked tirelessly for the Dem Party and secured Utah and Nevada for Eisenhower -- hence her app't after election.

Finds like this, however minor, instill hope in all of us all that anything still might be found floating around out there.

This note came from a very elderly man ahead of me in line, easily in his late 90s. He was a nice old guy, but he was complaining to the poor cashier about the size of the medicine bottles he was buying. He said 'I prefer the smaller bottles; why didn't they leave the size alone?'. On and on he went. He eventually asked the cashier to open one of the bottles, to insure the pills were the same size. She said she could not do that, but said he could return them if he didn't like them, once he got home. Anyway, after what seemed like forever, he noticed me behind him, apologized for the delay, and paid the cashier in cash, in what seemed like 30-40 one dollar bills. I didn't notice the silver certificate until I got to the car...now I wonder if the other bills were silver certs as well...I'll never know!

In that condition about $1.05 but they're neat and work well as a conversation starter.
