U.S. Postal Inspection Service Crime Alert

zippcityzippcity Posts: 1,328 ✭✭✭✭
Beware of Spam, bogus e-mails sent to postal customers. Some postal customers are receiving bogus e-mails about a package delivery or online postage charges. The e-mails contain a link or attachment that, when opened, installs a malicious virus that can steal personal information from your pc. The e-mails claim to be from the U.S. Postal Service and contain fraudulent information about an attempted or intercepted package delivery or online postage charges. You are instructed to clink on a link, open the attachment, or print the label. But Postal Inspectors warn: DON'T DO IT. If you have any questions about a delivery or wish to report spam, please call 1-800-ASK-USPS, or e-mail: spam@uspis.gov Thought this might be of interest to some.

Social engineering scams are not specific to the USPS, or even to email. They've existed for as long as humanity existed.

Some other email scams involve, but are not limited to: Western Union, PayPal, eBay, UPS, FedEx, Microsoft and exiled Nigerian diplomats.

Non-email scams involve, but are not limited to: cold calling a company and asking for help locating an individual, feigning handicap while walking through a subway car, and fake FaceBook pages for disaster relief.

What's weird is I only seem to get these emails when I'm expecting a package (which is not all the time). Coincidence?

Maybe not. On two occasions when my credit card was renewed and the expirartion date changed, I got spoof letters from supposedly AOL that stated my credit card had problems and sign in on their form with my password. I only got those letters when in fact there was a problem with my card. Did an AOL worker have a side business there?

Oh I just live for the African royal, diplomat etc that wants me to have 2 trillion dollars absolutely free. Of course there is the
matter of a small fee. But what is couple $thousand when I get my $2 trillion.

Please make me rich Mr African King. I lost your last email offer.
