Your collecting goals for 2015?
Well it's my favorite time of year getting to look back on the accomplishments of last year and setting my goals for next year.
Here were my 2014 goals:
1). Get the top registry 2000 UD Hitters Club auto set
2). Put together an Olympic Basketball ticket set
2a). Find a 1984 Jordan gold medal game ticket
3). Get a couple top tier basketball rookies showing packs at least 1 Bird/magic
4). Win the basketball unopened pack registry
5.) Add a PSA 10 to the 1980-1989 Cello Packs - Rookies
I was able to make all but #2 and #3 is a continual work in progress so I will carry both of those into this year. Here are my 2015 goals:
1). Collect a pack of each Hall of Fame inductee since 2000 showing top or bottom on an unopened pack (a couple scare me here to be able to find)
2). Put together an Olympic Basketball ticket set
3). Get a couple top tier basketball rookie showing packs at least 1 Bird/magic
4). Get 4 cases of 1992 basketball Series 2 and at least 10 Shaq showing packs/racks
5). Put together a set to Win my first CGC registry award (the superman comic record sale this past summer has peaked my interest to put together a comic set)
I'm interested to see everyone's goals!

if i can continue adding to the encouragement of keeping young people involved in the hobby, i could go cardless in 2015 and be perfectly happy.
anything else is a bonus.
* make a decent dent on my new project, which is Red Man Dodgers. Right now I'm doing them "with tab", but if that looks too expensive I will drop that requirement. Or I might do them both.
* send in my T-206 Superbas set to be slabbed in SGC holders. I'm hopeful they'll run a $7 special at some point. I think they've done that before. That'll save me $81 in grading fees.
* find that elusive PSA 9 Johnny Oates
* sell off a decent chunk of my modern stuff, which is mostly "retro" sets like Heritage, A&G and Turkey Red. I never look at them, so I might as well turn them into vintage cards that I will appreciate.
* finish my raw 1972 set (7 cards away)
* finish my raw 1970 set (6 cards away)
When the 1970 set is finished, I will be auctioning it off on eBay with 100% of the proceeds going to cancer research. A quick run-down for those that don't know the back story. Roughly 15 years ago a bunch of us in OBC used to gather on a nightly basis and chat on ICQ. I mentioned to the group that I thought the 1970 set was the ugliest of all time (still do). About a week later I got a box in the mail with about half of the set from a buddy of mine, David Kolenda. David got a good laugh out of it, and I cussed him a little (with a smile on my face as I did so). David was a great guy and a good friend. He lost his battle with cancer a little over 7 years ago. My intent since then has been to finish the starter set he sent me, and then auction it off in his name.

I don't think anybody on the message board knows this other than Doug, but my mom is struggling with stage 4 cancer. It started as breast cancer, but had spread to her lymph nodes and then her bones before they caught it. It was and is stage 4, which means incurable. She has fought to survive 3 years with only moderate progress of the disease, but lately the news has started to become more negative. Currently the cancer is in numerous vertebrae (8? 9?), 4 ribs, pelvis, both hip joints and left femur. The latest version of chemo they had her on stopped working at slowing the spread of the disease, so next week she is starting an experimental drug trial. We are blessed that she has been able to have her case managed by world-class Dana Farber in Boston.
I don't mention any of this to get sympathy, but for 2 reasons: first, to get it off my chest. I spend a large part of every day on CU and I've never mentioned it. And second, I'm hoping that a few of you will remember my mom in your prayers. She was only 54 when she was diagnosed and is only 57 now (she had me young). In any case, thanks for letting me share. God bless.
I find the goals topic intriguing and have mostly sorted mine in my head, and will post them here in the near future.

Very impressive tribute. Wishing you the best of luck. I don't check the BST page very often, so maybe the message board police won't mind if you post a reminder here when the time comes to auction off the '70 set.

Wow, lots of those available now. Wish there had been that many options when I actually needed one.
That line is a joke, and a reference to this thread.

Finish up my 1957, 1958 Braves sets in PSA 6 or 7.
Continue working on my Signed Brewers First Card project, I hope to add 100 or so more cards by this time next year.
Start up a high grade Nolan Ryan registered set.
My nickel-pack's worth of advice is to focus on your goal of getting the Henry Aaron rookie. Your voice tells me that's your dream card. The money you would spend on the other things, though they are nice, should be saved for the purchase price of a '54 Aaron that more than meets your picky standards. Come on, if it's got the right eye appeal, with characteristics that pop with your picky standards, the owner has already seen those as well and has likely put a premium price on it for the grade. You don't get a good deal on that kind of card---you get a good card for the market price, period. This way, you'll have no regrets, and a very liquid asset in the future. You'll also own your dream card, which I gather stands well above the other stuff you like.
No, I'm not a dealer, nor a collector who owns a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron now, but I've collected since 1961, and I can tell you from much experience it's better to focus on what will give you the most joy and satisfaction. Twenty-five years ago, I sold a bunch of my collection for a rare Mickey Mantle card. I turned many cards into one card, a 500-carat near flawless padparadscha sapphire. You had better believe that once I opened the package and feasted my eyes on that Mantle, there were and to this day have been no regrets. Some might consider that a totally rad move on my part, if I may borrow your avatar for a moment. Yeah, wasn't it. In the words of dear 'ol Droopy, "You know what? I'm happy." ---Indiana Jones (Brian Powell)
1 - Finish 1955 Topps set. I only need about 30-35 more cards, including only one HOFer.
2 - Continue chipping away at 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set - I'm down to needing seven. Illl be lucky to get 3 or 4 of those in 2015.
3 - Work on building a 1971 Topps set. I already have most of the HOFers in PSA 7 grade. The plan is to get the non-HOFers in ungraded form. I've started this recently by buying a few lots.
4 - Spend considerably less on cards than I did in 2014.

Great post!!! And you're right, it is my dream card. I've talked with a few members of this board and gotten their opinions about a few over the last year. Ultimately, I may hold out until the National or a bigger Chicago show so I can see that dream card in person. I couldn't go to the Natty this year, but next summer it'll be only about 90 minutes away.
For 2014, my goal is very simple. I'd like to continue working on my Post-WWII HOF Rookie Set. If you click on my signature, you can see how far I have to go. I'm enjoying this set the most since I finished my Clemente Basic set. Hopefully I can remained focused on this one goal.
Well, I was well on my way…picked up a large amount of the cards, but about a month or two ago I changed my focus to just the First Ballot HOFers. So for 2015, my only goal is to complete that set. I only have the Seaver and Mantle rookies to complete it….let's see if I can save up enough to do it.
Good luck to everyone else.

And BBGs asking price for a 9 is only 39.99. Has the value of this set dropped over the last 5 years due to population increases?
Reading some of the goals, it might be wise to step away from the computer, go outside and get some fresh air. Maybe walk around the block. Perhaps spend some time with the wife and children. Life is short and collecting should be something that is an accompaniment to your life, not a supplement or substitute, or heaven forbid, an escape from the responsibilities that we have.
I think Warren Zevon said it best when explaining the importance of the time that we have left when he said, "Enjoy every sandwich." That doesn't mean eat every sandwich!!! Let life and the hobby be enjoyable and not be consuming or consumed.

But I hope to just upgrade some of my 70's sets and try and add to my 61 topps set.
Topps set. Overall, my focus was not narrow, and my collection diversified. It was an expensive year.
While I will purchase a couple lots of cards that I agreed to secure early in the year, 2015 is going to be a quiet year for me in the card world. I have some big things happening with my business, so I will be streamlining my finances. I will be concentrating more on reducing debt and adding to my savings, while taking some time away from growing my collection. I plan on enjoying what I have built, and hopefully getting it more organized. Most importantly, I want to enjoy lots of family time. Maybe, at the end of of the year, I will add some stuff. But, even when I get back, I will be more focused and budget-conscious. Happy New Year everyone!

1. Reach a personal best ranking in the Yaz master set registry. My highest has been 24 and I'm currently 25, so that would mean getting to 23rd at some point in 2015. I know that doesn't sound that impressive, but it's a very competitive registry, with many people constantly updating and the occasional newcomer flying right into the top 20.
2. Get my 2 raw vintage Cappelletti autos in blue flips
3. Reach 75% complete on the Cappelletti master set, while maximizing grades within my budget
4. Reach 70/80 complete on my 1959 Fleer Ted Williams set. Currently 51/80
5. Continue to make progress on my 1951 Bowman PSA team set of Brooklyn Dodgers
6. Obtain a PSA 8 copy of 1974 Topps Carlton Fisk
1 ) --- 1983 Topps Baseball --- 19 -- 10's to go . I'd like to pick up 5-10 more this year .
2 ) --- 1984 Topps Baseball --- 71 -- 10's to go . I'd like to pickup 20-30 more this year . I think I'm going to submit most of these .
3 ) ---- 1950's Topps Orioles in 8's or better --- At 20.57 % . I'd like to get to 30 % with at least 5 more 9's .
4 ) ---- 1960's Topps Orioles in 9's or better ---- At 9.85 % . I'd like to get the set up to 30 % .
5 ) ---- HOF Players set ---- At 90.28 % all 10's and 24 to go , I'd like to get 10 to 12 more added .
6 ) ---- 1971 OPC CFL Football set ---- At 42.42 % , I'd like to get to 50 % on this set .
I have other sets as well and well add as able .------ Sonny
I'm surprised though there aren't as many unopened pack collecting goals as in past years so far.
Also good luck to the gentlemen putting together their 1983 Topps baseball sets. I always loved this set and will be excited to see their progress.

Wow, awesome! I'm only up to about 100 raw cards in the 1960 set. I can't imagine collecting the whole thing in PSA 8
<< <i>My immediate goal is to get this centered O-Pee-Chee rookie and a few other Gretzky items signed by The Great One. He usually does one or two private signings a year.
Now that Gretzky is back with UDA i don't think there will be any more private signings.
As far as goals for 2015, i want to sell. I have just have accumulated way too much stuff.
