For the last few weeks I've been planning for my 2nd Annual Birthday Rip. However, I've got plans most of the day (31st) so I decided to stretch it over 3 days. Got some good stuff set aside I think.
But I also received some stuff for Christmas that needed to be ripped so I got into that today.
A blaster of 13 Topps Chrome FB. I think it produced pretty well. The Foster and Hopkins are /499 and I dig the LeVeon and Tavon cards.
I also ripped the 78FB pack from my Secret Santa and a 87D pack that I intended to rip a while back that got buried. The 78 pack had no stars but a couple nice commons. Hit a Maddux in the Donruss pack but it's OC and has a touched corner.
For anyone interested in the Birthday Rip Schedule:
12/29: 85 Baseball
12/30: 85 OPC HK, 85FB Rack, Sportcaster
12/31: 74FB, 76BK, 75 Mini Cello(Winfield back)

<< <i>Good luck with the 75 mini cello, Jim! >>
Tim - ever since I bought this pack I've wanted to know what the front of the Winfield looks like. The back is pretty close to perfect. I obviously got some corner concerns but hoping for the best. When it didn't sell on BST, I decided it would be my birthday present. We shall see soon enough.
Thanks,

Day 1 - Pack 1
Start with a dud. Rose was stuck to a gumstained Tony Pena. I did get a kick out of these miscuts though. 85 QC at Topps was lacking. Hopefully it can't get worse than this.
Up later this afternoon is 85 Fleer Cello
Fleer pack a little better, but not much. Centering on top half of pack was good but starless. Centering on back half was not so good but did yield a Saberhagen and a cool Sparky.
Will rip the Donruss around dinner time. Maybe a few Newcastles will help.
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
Donruss pack was a total dud. Nothing even worth sharing. No stars, and while centering not horrible, nothing was worthy of posting.
With Day 1 not looking good, I had to dig up another victim for this evening. Maybe I'll have better luck.
It's days 2 & 3 where a little production will be appreciated.
Not much better, but better none the less. Which isn't saying much. Couple Olympic cards just to tease me. Also had a nice sticky piece if gum between Boggs and Gwynn so that sucked, but hey, the Trammell is pretty clean.
Hopefully better luck tomorrow.
Looking forward to the rest of the rips... a pretty diverse selection to say the least.
Have a great birthday tomorrow and may the wax gods be with you, Jim!

Aaaah. Day 2 starts much better. Nice stars in this 85 rack. A hit in each cell. Elway has some print dots and the black is kinda faded, not the sharp black you'd like to see, but still a nice card. The Moon has a little "dimple" on one side, but again, a decent card, a fun rip and a good start to Day 2.
Next up is 84 OPC Hockey
First time ripping 84OPC HK. First thing I noticed was the gum. Paper thin and almost as fragile as ash. Seems more likely to disolve than be chewed.
As for the cards, there was nothing great and no perfection, but I really enjoyed it. Pretty solid R/L centering but a little shy on T/B, and the last card gave me a brief rush of excitement before reality set in.
Sportcaster with Dorsett on back coming up later.
Another first. I've never ripped one of these and picked up a few back in November on a whim. They go in runs so I had some idea going in a few cards to expect. Still a fun rip.
I like the Andretti, Pele, and Dorsett most, but also the Carew, Havlicek, Beliveau and The Hall of Fame card.
Love TDs 'fro.
Realized I missed 2 cards. Not of any significance so not bothering with pic.
Tomorrow's schedule is:
74 FB Wax
76 BK Wax
75 BB mini Cello
Looking forward to the 75T and 76T Bkb.

Not a great start. A who's who of who? Oh well. Off to do some birthday family fun.
76 BK up later this afternoon.
I love these big cards. I have this set raw, and really dig it. I picked up about 9 packs over the last year, and this was a good excuse to rip one.
With only 6 cards it almost seemed like a modern rip. I luckily hit 3 HOFers, all pretty clean. The Silas looks real good except a rough cut on the right side. The gum card was also badly creased, but nobody I'll miss. I'm pretty sure I'll be ripping another one of these sometime soon.
I'll probably get into the 75 pretty soon, but it will be a slow rip. I'll try to post as I go along.
Happy New Year!!!
The Nino Bibbia Toboganning RC was great and gave me a roaring LOL.

Gonna start the BBQ pretty soon so figured I'd get the hard part out of the way. I'll be doing a bit of hit and run throughout the evening in 4 card batches. Will start once I get a coldies down. Top left corner has me a bit worried.
Hope the 75 cello is dynamite for you

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Over half way done...
You got a couple red-yellow real toughies in there~Lockwood and Miller. Stinson is super tough, too.
The collation is dead on, though, through the first half of the pack.
Hoping the Winfield corners are sharp~Topps used regular sized wrappers for 75 mini cellos so dinged corners are common as packs are even more tightly wrapped than the regular sized 75 cellos.
Thanks for sharing the results, Jim! Happy new Year!

After this next batch of 4 there were only 2 remaining and we know we finish with Winfield, and I happened to catch a peak of the card in front of him as well.
Gotta say I'm pretty pleased. Not that this has been a money making endeavor by any means, but purely a ton of fun and to get the Schmidt as an unexpected surprise and close out my rip with a pair of HOFers is pretty cool.
Thanks for following.
All the best in the New Year!

Soderholm and Kobel look very nice, too!
