Oh well...the plan to keep the powder dry this year and wait for the dust to settle just didn't happen. Pulled the trigger on two big coins and pretty much used up any hobby cash for another year or two.

Still need to get Todd to image these. Hopefully will get down to Tampa to do so.

    Nice coins - congrats! image

Met my goal of just having fun - - picked up a few pieces of eye candy and a number of nice pieces of plastic. Enjoyed working with PCGS on the upcoming Samples display in Tampa.

My son and I are working on a set, and he's starting to have a sense of looking for a coin he really likes, which makes the hunt both longer and more enjoyable. I think there are about five things he needs for mere completion, and a pretty good handful of upgrade-eligible pieces, so that's an active project.

My boy made four acquisitions for this set over the year. He's become *really* choosy, so it always seems like a major triumph when he finds something that makes the cut at a price that he can swing. He found a killer raw XF45 Type 1 SLQ at a show last winter after looking at easily fifty possible pieces over a period of months. That was fun.

I keep looking for upgrades to my Jefferson set, but it's pretty good already, to the point where improving on it actually costs real money, and a big part of the concept of this set was to select awesome coins that don't cost much. I'll buy certain early Jefferson proofs at market prices if I see highly attractive ones.

I found somebody breaking up a nice old set on ebay last March, and picked up some of their early proofs raw at very reasonable prices -- got the 39, 42 T1, 51 and 52 out of that collection, all of them pretty decent.

The expanded type set needs a gold $3. Maybe this will be the year.

2015 turned into a minor marathon of home improvement issues for us, so that got deferred. I did manage to negotiate a good pay raise, though, so maybe next year.
