Regarding the rarity scale in Gilroy, I recall C for Common, N for Normal, S for Scare, R for Rare with the "2" being like "very". Any view on how representative on how accurate these rarity ratings are today?
I have several books for the subject coins and the quoted rarity among them can be a bit scattered. However, given that Gilboy's book is one of the more recent works, and with a quick examination of sales on Heritage and eBay, I'd speculate that the 4 Reales you picked up should be considered rare, as one would expect to see at least several listings for past sales otherwise. That's just my thoughts anyway.
