I bought a Rapa Nul / Easter Island colorized coin issued by the Cook Islands.

The US Mint was the first to introduce a curved coin with the Baseball Hall of Fame (really as a tribute to our technology as well) but have never issued a colorized coin like many other Mints around the world.

Sure there are aftermarket US coins that have been colorized and available from the talking heads on the TV, but should the US Mint issue one - and would you buy it?

I think that you would only buy colorized coins if your coin dreams are in technicolor........

    Nope.
  • Whatever technique the Canadian Mint uses to colorize coins is tolerable, some are actually quite nice. As for aftermarket colorization, NO NO NO to all of them; they're all horrible. I don't care for the colorization process on this coin. It looks too much like aftermarket colorization. And I do not want the US Mint to start colorizing coins, although they probably will, eventually. image
  • If they made it to be a CIRCULATING coin, yes. Otherwise, no, and I don't care if the flippers make millions, I will not buy it!

The job of the US Mint is to produce coins for circulation. Higher costs to produce those coins because of color would increase the cost of government and therefore your taxes. It sounds like a great idea. Steveimage

"Should the US Mint create a colorzied coin"

Only if it is sold in "The Young Collectors Set" and they include the crayons so that you can "make your own" coin image

Some of the colorized pieces from Australia are pretty cool. It might take the U.S. Mint a few tries to get it right, but why not?

As for raising taxes, assuming that the colorized coins are sold for a premium, it should cover all the costs involved with making
them. Might actually save the taxpayers some money.

    Sand painting is more interesting.
BTW I believe the mint should get out of supplying collectors and just make money.

No... For the most part I really think them tacky. Our friends to the North do some nice pieces featuring wildlife though!
I have not bought any and can't get over the tacky factor though..

Forgive my poor recall of the history here though.
I don'r remember much about Easter Island except for some of the various wild theories on how and why these monuments were constructed.

It looks like this is some sort of enormous communal urinal trough and bladder relief ceremony...
    No offense here.... Just wondering.....

    I'll leave it at thatimage
