No, just looks cleaned and slightly porous. It was probably cleaned after being environmentally damaged.

The 2 looks more goofy to me than the 9.
    When in doubt, don't.

Looks fake to me. I don't like how strong the rim and dentilation are, relative to the interior details. Pass on this one.

The 9 & 2 just don't look right. Anybody know how many 1912 S obverse dies were used?

My thoughts exactly. The portrait is G/VG details, while the rim and denticles are XF+. Same on the reverse. The porosity doesn't help, either.

    linky

1912-S nickels are notoriously weak in the central details. This could be genuine, VG, harshly cleaned with tapped rims, but I couldn't be sure without seeing it.

I looked at some of his other pieces and he seems to have a lot of genuine but problem coins.

I agree with Tom. The reverse appears to be OK, and there is no option with Liberty nickels for an 'S' mint other
than 1912. Not the nicest coin, however.

looks very suspect. I would not buy the coin period.

Looks genuine to me (based on images of other '12S's).

I personally would not touch this coin, as it has been harshly cleaned.

Looks scrubbed and grainy. Maybe acid cleaned to get that way? I dunno?????
