"U.S. Civil War Store Cards" 3rd. Edition by George and Melvin Fuld

A large format, full color hardcover book. 664 pages. This book lists all the merchant Civil War tokens in an easy to use format with large images. Each merchant is given more than just the listing, in addition the history and any other information is given. All obverse dies are now given a single die number as the stock reverses had been in earlier additions. This is a must-have book for all numismatists interested in the Civil War period. NEW - just released in 12/2014. John Ostendorf, Editor.

This is a beautiful book. I am very impressed with it.

If you have an interest see my post on BST. I am the book fulfillment center for the Civil War Token Society, so you should contact me for membership deals and wholesale deals on the club's behalf.

  • Looks beautiful. I've blown my budget for this month but maybe I can do it in January if there are any left!

I stopped by Eagle Eye this afternoon to pick up a copy, and am impressed. In addition to providing brief remarks on proprietors, the book features glossy paper with color photographs, rarity estimates, comments on the Civil War era, collecting tips, etc.

It looks like a nice book. My interest in Civil War Store cards has dropped a great deal from where it was ten years ago, and when I was dealer. Still I might buy one just to keep current.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

WOW - that looks great. I had the old red cover one with B&W pictures. image

I only have about 40 CWT and have identified all the Fuld numbers, but it looks like an outstanding reference guide. A lot of work went into it.

These are two of my favorites

For the toning, Star of David (F 189/399 )
    image

For the meaning and history of the times, Horrors of War / Blessings Peace (F 37/256)
    image

But I also get a kick out of the "SHOOT HIM ON THE SPOOT"
It must really hurt to get shot on the spoot image

Neither of those pieces are in the book. They are patriotic Civil War tokens.

Ah thanks. I see the book is about Store Cards, not patriotic Civil War tokens. image

Them Fuld brothers must have been busy cataloguing them all.

The updated Patriotic book is also available. It is softcover and much cheaper than the new store card book at $25.

I'm glad you'll have at least one of them in time. The Indian Cent book is scheduled to be unloaded in the Port of Long Beach, CA on December 20. Probably not to be delivered in time for Christmas. image
