Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

60's & 70's Display Boxes Full Of Cards ... Sale Completed.

Awhile back I bought an Estate Collection that featured a number of 1960's & Early 70's Baseball & Football Display Boxes that were full of cards.
The cards over all were very crisp and in pack fresh condition, some were even re-wrapped and placed back in their original wax wrappers and cello boxes.
Anyway, the time has come to thin the heard a little as they say, so I'll be offereing up a couple dozen or so boxes of these cards.
I figured I'd offer them up to interested collectors here first before attempting the auction house or ebay route.
At this point, I'm only intereted in selling the display boxes with the cards and wrappers where applicable as a complete package.
I'd be more than happy to send you a list of all the cards and scans also.
Some of you might have seen my posts with some of this collection in the past year or so here on the CU.
I've been around along time and have had many successfull ebay and private dealings over the years.
Thanks for looking.

I have bought items from Kirk in the past and everything is as good as stated. Not only that but the items were packed like he was sending fine china from the Titanic find. Excellent experience all around.

"From the previous thread, it looks like you searched / removed all the cards and submitted the best to PSA.
Please correct me, if I am wrong? When making sales, do you plan to show the cards or is this a grab bag?"

    No grab bags here guys.
Anyone that makes a deal with me will know exacly what they are getting.
No surprises, as there will be plenty of scans and all the cards will be completely listed out.
I'm a collector myself, so I will do my best to treat anyone I deal with, exactly how I appreciate being treated.

I've easily rec'd a couple dozen emails since I posted this up a few hours ago, so please bear with me as I'll do my best to try and get back with everyone.
Thank you ALL for your interest.

  • Are we to assume for the price wrappers and gum will be included? Don't really care about the gum but wrappers would be nice.

    Thanks
    Jason
  • None of the boxes come with gum as it was removed when the cards were originally opened back in the day.

As far as wrappers, I will mention them in the discription if they are part of the package.
In this particular instance, there are no wrappers available.

    I fourth that remark.

so far this whole thing sort of reminds me of the fritsch fiasco from about 10 years ago where they sent an email to everyone on their (e)mailing list trying to gauge interest in 60's unopened wax, cello and vending, etc and asked people to email them with a list of what they would be interested in and saying they would reply with pricing but instead never replied....

Too many positive references provided by others in this thread for that. More likely that Kirk was slammed with requests and is now re-thinking how to do this to
maximize the return (not a knock on Kirk, he is entitled to benefit from his find).

Still, he should say something to everyone to explain what is going on.

Like I said above Kirk is a good man. Things will work out.. he will get back to all I am sure. He must have a lot going on.
  • Sorry Gentleman for not getting back with some of you ..... I do sincerely apoligize for that.
I have received well over 50 email inquires from interested parties and I just don't have the time or resources to respond to each and every one of you at this point in time.
I feel badly about it, as I know people don't like the feeling that they are being ignored ... I can certainly appreciate that as I don't either.
In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have posted this up until I had each box completely priced out.
That would have been the wise move on my part.
Totally a Rookie mistake as I haven't sold items directly for many, many years.

In the time I do have to allocate to this I have been very busy pricing cards, coresponding with interested parties
and selling boxes of cards. Four in fact, in the past 24 hours.
Also in that same time frame I have corresponded back and fourth with eight different collectors.
I just haven't done it with everyone that has inquired.
Again, my apoligies as I've been taken back by how much interest this has generated.
I mean no harm or disrespect to anyone that has written me and please don't take it personally.
Granted, I should have posted this up a couple days ago when the email avalanche over took me.

So at this time, I will kindly request no more emails please re. these cards.
For the collectors here that have contacted me, I will do my best to get back with you if the material
you requested information on is still available once it has all been priced.
Please be patient in that regard.
Thank you ALL for the overwelming interest you have shown.
I really wish I could have done a much better job getting back to each and every one of you.

dont bother wasting your time--I was like the third person to contact him two weeks ago only a couple hours after he started his thread and two weeks later, still no reply.....

nothing personal towards kirk as plenty of people have come to his defense here and said good things about him and I'm sure he's a good guy: we had a nice albeit brief exchange back in august of 2013 shortly after he started his amazing thread showing all the cards and boxes from the collection (although I had to send him two pm's over a two week period before I finally heard back from him).

What i do find upsetting is that in his last post on the thread he mentioned he had made deals with four people in the previous 24 hours so I guess he's not going in any particular order (ie I guess he doesnt use the "first come, first served" rule as theres no doubt some of those people who he made deals with contacted him after I--and others--did). In the two weeks since he started this thread he should at least have had the common courtesy send a quick pm or email to everyone who contacted him stating something along the lines of "thanks for contacting me and for your interest; have been innundated with responses but just wanted to say a quick thanks and will be in touch soon." Thats all--is that so much to ask?!?! All he had to do was write something like that and just send it to everyone who either pm'ed or emailed him. At least thats what I wouldve done.

My number one motto is "Dont start what you cant finish".

My number two motto is "Dont waste my time".

In this case, both mottos apply.

maybe reread Kirk's most recent post guys. he apologized for overwhelming himself and putting added pressure to demands that exceeded his expectations by a country mile.

try to reflect on what he shared with us over the past couple of years, a monumental task for a collector, which is what he seems to me as more committed. not a salesman ready to dump a huge accumulation, just a guy who wanted to help out some fellow collectors with their passion. if i'm wrong about it, sorry.

got no attachment here, other than knowing it would be nice for any of us to own a bunch more great cards. Kirk replied to me and we've had a couple e-mail exchanges since, but no recent communication, because......well......maybe it's just the holidays and the guy is enjoying family time away from this nonsense.

give him an opportunity to sort things out his way. whomever gets excluded, i'm certain your chance at personal gains in the card world does not end here.

    enjoy your hobby.

    this isn't a "group rip".

my interpretation of Kirk's already completed sales is that he dealt with people he's known over the years that he knew would make a simple, clean transaction free of other concerns.

pretty sure he didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

but, ripping him in this thread certainly ain't gonna get him all jump-up-and-dance happy to serve.
  • jmaciujmaciu Posts: 1,289 ✭✭✭
I am not involved in trying to purchase cards from these lots. However, I have worked with Kirk multiple times, and each of our transactions has been handled with class and attention to detail from his end. He has truly been great to work with.
  • 70ToppsFanatic70ToppsFanatic Posts: 2,106 ✭✭✭✭
Comparing this to a group rip is really a stretch. Besides the fact that group rips involve sharing what is offered, they are also always run as first-come-first-served.

As one of the early responders I am disappointed that the OP didn't even have the courtesy to reply. It isn't really all that difficult. And despite a decent history of good transactions in the community, the really is no defense for being rude.

Oh well. The original thread was still very cool.

Well two weeks is enough time for Kirk to respond in my opinion. Kirk may be a great guy and perhaps has a ton of PM's to respond to, but to not respond at all to advise those collectors of the situation is in not right. I hope he got a ton of money for those cards. That was a very quality lot that he was offering....unless he pulled all of the gradable cards out.

    1. This was not a group rip. It was a sale thread.

    2. As the owner of the cards he can sell whatever he wants, to whoever he wants, whenever he wants, for whatever amount he wants.

    3. If I were an interested party I would certainly be disappointed and frustrated at the lack of communication. However I would have also taken his public apology at face value, that he grossly underestimated the response. Certainly seems plausible.

In short, give this guy a break.
  • dennis07dennis07 Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭
Nobody has attacked the guy. Some opinions have been expressed in a mostly courteous way. I'm not sure how much more of
a break he could be getting unless you propose everyone just not express an opinion.

  • Man, Tough Crowd Here .... Some Of You Guys Are Really Something Else!

I'm not going to apologize again here Gang.
Didn't you read my last post to this thread?
I don't believe I could have spelled it out any clearer for some of you.
Here it is again, one more time:

"So at this time, I will kindly request no more emails please re. these cards.
For the collectors here that have contacted me, I will do my best to get back with you IF the material
you requested information on is still available once it has all been priced.
Please be patient in that regard.
Thank you ALL for the overwelming interest you have shown.
I really wish I could have done a much better job getting back to each and every one of you."

Here's an update: The vast majority of this collection has been SOLD.
It was basically sold to a small group of collectors the majority of which I had dealt with previously.
As it turned out just a couple of guys took the vast majority of my items.
When selling no one is going to deal with 50+ people, many of which I have never done business with before
when you can deal with only a couple that you already have and have had success with.

Thank You Very Much Dan Bessette for your post and Voice Of Reason, as it is exactly my position on the subject.
    Here that is again:

Certainly seems plausible."

So this will be my last post here re. this sale or issue.
I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with those of you that feel slighted that you didn't get a chance at this material,
or a personal email back explaining why you didn't, especially after my last post regarding the situation where it was very clearly
    stated on my part.

Now I remember why for the better part of the last decade, I just have sent my sale items off to Auction Houses.
Next to impossible to keep everyone happy on an offering such as this!

  • Kirk

Awesome collection….don't mind you not getting back to me after seeing your first posted price. I hope you caught the big fish you were looking for. Beautiful boxes and neat display and had no interest in grossly paying over 10 times the actual value for the items. I think the way you marketed and displayed the items were genious. They definitely had lure and luster. I enjoyed seeing your previous post with pictures as you displayed the items. As P.T. Barnum once said…… well anyway thanks for sharing. I hope they found a good home and continued to get the display as you had in your photos and kept with the boxes in original condition.
