I dont see how one can sell someone elses item with having permission of the original owner...the reason being is that they are using the original owners photos which they do not have permission to use.... unless the other store has granted permission... agree with you..seems shady

Once again, ebay forges into new territory.... so the 'seller' gets the money, then proposes to buy the item to ship....I wonder what the cost is from the owner of the coin.... and will the seller just take the cash and run?....Unbelievable... Cheers, RickO

<< <i>I'm not quite sure I see the problem. >>

    Several problems that I see.
    1. He does not own this coin
    2. There is no guaranty that you will get this coin as the owner may change his
mind or not even know this is happening.
    3. Coin might not even be available for sale or may have been already sold.
    4. He does not own the coin and therefore own the photo either. Can't post photos
from outside sources without permission (none stated)

    Maybe other violations or worries.

<< <i>Im selling on the behalf of another store. Once you buy the item. I will wait till the payment clears then buy the item directly from the site and have it shipped to you. >>

If that was true then the buyer could look it up and buy it directly from that site.

The issue I see is that it shows a PCGS graded MS-62.

    But it says:
    "Certification Uncertified"

And in the description it says "Brilliant Uncirculated" without saying the grade.

So with that, I'd assume it may not be the coin in the photo that's being sold.

If you do a reverse image search on the seller's photo, you can find the online store selling this exact item: http://www.silvermorgandollar.com/item/Certified_Morgan_Silver_Dollar_1888-O_MS62_Scar_Face_PCGS

His opening bid price is only $100 higher than the website price. If he's selling this coin as a broker/middleman, I don't understand how he can possibly make any money out of this deal unless he has some prior arrangement with the store owner to acquire the coin at a deep discount to the advertised price.

Having said that, I'm not going to jump to conclusions as to whether he's an authorized reseller of this coin or not... that's pure speculation and not really reportable without proof.

The part that seems most shady to me is how he's so adamant about "waiting for the money to clear". Aside from e-checks, PayPal payment is usually instant so this shouldn't even be an issue. Seems like a big red flag to me. image

I sent the owner a heads up with a few questions and perhaps I'll get an answer before it
ends but really doubt it. I think the ebay seller set it up to end on the weekend when the
    owner is likely closed.

I should bid just to make this guy think he has a fish on, then cancel my bid a few hours later. I'm fairly certain that he has a shill in to mk

Well, he's about to make $120 with shipping added in. Also wonder if ebay will hold funds for
three weeks or till he gets positive feedback on this sale. Wish I knew who the buyer was so that
I could follow along and see how it all turns out.

Paypal will hold the funds on this low feedback seller until completion of transaction. Unhappy buyer will get his money back from paypal. Any buyer of such a listing deserves the troubles that will most likely come with it. Pre-selling on ebay is a bad business model and eventually bites those who try to make it work.

In a round about way seller has indicated it is a pre-sell, allowed by ebay if shipped to buyer withing 30 days. Only violation I can see is use of someone else's photo and that person would have to report the photo theft to ebay.

Never took a hit on the buy or sell side back then!

Today one has to be extra careful of fake coins and slabs.

Why in the heck would anyone sell a $10k item on an account with such little feedback?

That's why I posted this. I have no clue as to how this seller intended to make money.

It cost him $750 in final value fees and his start price did not even cover that.

Newby that blew it even if it is legit and he follows through. I suspect he's screwed with
the fees as it did sell.
