Ebay global--no tracking

I shipped an oz. certified gold coin to Canada to someone who had zero feedbacks, paypal and ebay said he was OK. I sent express, it arrived in KY where the global operates out of. Ebay said they have no obligation to me after it arrives in KY on tracking. The buyer never contacted me, so I am up in the air on the transaction. I tried emailing him in ebay and regular email, no response.

I believe that your obligation shipping wise is concluded once the package arrives safely in Kentucky.

hopefully this all works out well in the end for both of you

how long has this dragged on for?
you got $$$ first i hope
is he in claim process of saying item never received?

one of my golden rules is....no international shipping
sometimes that's enough just trying to get through an issue "within our border"

Agree...works well for some sellers, if they are willing to go through all the potential problems, but for me, I only ship to the US and it's Territories where the postage rate is the same and tracking is available. I've set my parameters accordingly. Ebay automatically excludes buyers from bidding if they fall outside my parameters....

  • It is impossible to know if there was a problem since neither the buyer nor ebay indicate there is one. But since the buyer in Canada was a first time ebay customer at least on his account, and ebay told me that is the way it works--it gets to Erlanger and no further tracking is needed for me, there is nothing I can do. So that leaves the seller in the dark unless or until there is an inquiry. Already paid, but no confirmation from buyer. $1600 item.

Link, under "Shipping Items with Global Shipping" section, says - "When the GSP facility receives the package and forwards it to the buyer a second tracking record will be added to the eBay purchase to allow for further tracking during the international shipping leg."

Yes, according to eBay rules once it gets to KY your obligation is over.

I don't know what happens if the buyer decides to leave other than perfect feedback.

    That would bother me.

I do know that the Canadian postal service is extremely costly and slow. So, give it some time
to get there as it could take two week (in my experience).

  • It arrived in KY over 10 days ago. Since then no updates, no communication from buyer or tracking update. No indication customs or ebay have even inspected it yet.
"The seller has provided a tracking number. The tracking status will be updated once the shipment reaches the carrier." That is all I get when I click on the tracking. And I have spoken to ebay customer service a number of times and they say the same thing--"your obligation is over" once it gets to Erlanger. So I said what if the contents were pilfered, what is to prevent a false claim either by ebay or the buyer that I did not ship the item as promised?

I would not bother contacting the buyer unless he contacts you first. Let sleeping dogs lie.

  • I got a paypal chargeback today on this $1600 item where the buyer claimed they did not authorize their cc to do the transaction. I spoke to paypal and they reversed it as ebay had told me repeatedly that my job was done when it got to Erlanger, KY. And also provided tracking information, so not sure what happened here possibly a stolen credit card as a check on the customer showed someone managing an accounting or financial firm in Canada. No communication from the buyer after both emails directly to him as well as through ebay.

Thanks for info, what a scary transaction. I would be livid if a buyer was trying to rip me like that and somehow their system had allowed it. I don't do international shipping period despite what they urge. Its my coin business, not theirs or some corporate minion to run.

The only international transaction I had the buyer wanted to cancel immediately because of the fees. After that I went and disabled it.

This is why I only ship within the United States. It is not worth the hastle shipping outside the USA, besides all the bs from ebay about how great it is doing business worldwide.
I had a few problems like this and I bailed out. Believe me it is not worth it.
