Opinions Wanted On This 89-CC Morgan. Would it net grade or is it a lost cause?

I'm leaning to the lost cause side due to the facial scratch and the rim damage (which is hard to see in my hasty and crappy pictures.) The scratch appears to be old and not recent.

However I'm wondering if it's worth it to genuine holder it (assuming it's real, looks ok to me) or leave it raw.

It's a rather interesting story. My uncle brought this to me last week. The story is he found it under the carpet in my Great Grandma's house years ago when doing some remodeling. My mom even remembers him finding it. Neither one knew the 89-CC as being a key date. He also sold me his junk silver he'd collected over the years. Said he wasn't getting any younger and needed the money.

I gave him $100 for the coin and told him anything I get over that I'd split with him. It's difficult to price problem coins sometimes, but I figure this should be about a $200 - $250 coin. Am I way off? What do you think it is worth? I know it's nothing special compared to the mint state monsters everyone posts, but it is an 89-CC Morgan and since I already have one in PCGS G-6, I'm going to let this one go. Really breaks my heart with that cheek scratch image

What do you think?

Assuming you aren't going to sell it because of the history, why slab it? Looks like one for the album to me.

I just re-read you post and see you are going to sell it. I agree with AUandAG and would just sell it as is.

Scratch and cleaning prevent a grade. It's real just sell as is.

No need to submit it, the scratch is pretty obvious. I'd think you'd get $250 on eBay

It got into a knife fight with this one that sold for $225

Well if that one sold for $225 then this one should do a bit better. That is one ugly gash compared to mine.

Thanks for the thoughts guys! I'll be selling it raw.

Quick update. Sold this one raw, to a dealer no less, for $400. The offer kind of shocked me as I would have taken $250 to be honest. As they say, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
