Help Asked For - 1871 CALIFORNIA GOLD 1/2 DOLLAR IS IT REAL?

I was wondering if this is real? I've not seen any obverses without 13 stars.

    Yes, it's real but heavily damaged. Ex-jewelry pieces such as this are not particularly rare.

    Is the weight about 1 gram? BTW, same seller has another holed one available for auction.

    This is a Period 2 coin which are all underweight and were made as souveniers/collectables and for the jewelry trade. The Period 1 coins were made for commerce and had an intrinsic value closer to their face value.
