Could you still enjoy the hobby at the same level as before
Figured this would make for a good question and personally I know I could

I've switched to buying more books, exonumia and ephemera and doing more research and writing.
I'm having more fun (numismatically speaking) than I've ever had.

Old, with some rarity and a good story have long attracted me. I could buy some books at that level, but coins would be a bust.
I was doing it in the late 1960s, but the coins that sold for then are usually $100s of dollars now.

There is indeed a lot of enjoyment to be had at $25 in ancient coins Although, I'd admittedly save up for a bit and buy $100 coins - many collectors of ancients have never spent over $100 and have been able to thoroughly enjoy the hobby for most of their lives.

So, yes, but it does vary to the level of enjoyment.
Also, I've learned to NOT expect much of a return on what I've spent when buying in the low range.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
some of my better buys are found in that range...

Let me throw a curve ball in here. Looks pretty safe from a dealer's perspective.
The conversation went something like this :
"You know sir, that Morgan might be worth $30, but I've had to scale back my coin buying budget, so I will pay you $10"
… "but I promise to enjoy it, considering this economy "
And there are plenty of "collectors" who attempt this in the shop. I have to give them credit.
