3 Fake Chinese Silver Dollars?

Had coin club tonight, picked these up cheap... everyone (pretty much myself included) thought they were fake. I took a shot just on the off-chance we were all wrong.

I'll compare weights once I can find them in Krause, but it's late, and I have a feeling when I wake up, someone will have figured out what these are. Pretty sure 2 are Chinese, and the 3rd not, but they were sold as "3 Chinese Dollars - Silver?/Fake?"

  • The last one is counterfeit, the first two appear to be modern fantasy pieces, so not technically "counterfeit", but yea still fake in the general sense image

    Highly enthusiastic about world coins, contemporary circulating counterfeits and unusual stuff <3

  • Nice die clash on the first one.

    Not a real coin in the lot I am sad to say. However, they are useful as educational tools to help you avoid fakes in the future. You might even consider doing a presentation at the coin club in the future on the subject of fakes and counterfeits.

    Yes all of them are fakes and the 1st one is looking like a 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), ND (1908). L&M-11;
    K-216; Y-14; WS-0029. it just has that strike and the look is off and the last is looking like the Great Britain trade dollar and it has that mush look as well no sharp letters.

    Here is a pic of a real one of the 1st coin.

    Thanks folks, pretty much what I figured, but no biggie.

    Are these contemporary counterfeits/fantasy coins? They look struck at least with Die Cracks on 2 of them. Any idea what era these were "made"? The first 2 have a silverish ring to them, so maybe there was some silver in them, but at 18+g each, highly unlikely I suppose.

    Does anyone collect these types of things?

    A great clue. I always look for mush (cast?) versus sharp (struck) letters and design elements.
