I think we are entitled to and have a responsibility to judge those that are in the spotlight and make libelous statements that create tension among Americans.

Objectively, that would be great, but that endeavor is impossible due to personal opinion and bias.

Also, I don't recall Aaron saying any libelous statement about any specific individual. Perhaps I missed that.

As I said earlier, none of us can possibly empathize with a guy who endured the constant racial hatred and bigotry that Aaron did throughout his playing career. To do so without firsthand perspective is simply disingenuous, imho.

I read Aarons autobiography and the amount of racist and death threat comments that man endured is simply sickening, I give the man a pass on his views right or wrong.

If someone in the spotlight doesn't want their words to be dissected and discussed, then they shouldn't make provocative and controversial statements in public.
It is their right to speak, and it is our right to judge/not judge, agree or disagree with what is said.
I admire and respect everything Hank Aaron did on the field and always will; he will always be the HR king in my opinion.
However, after his recent statements I lost some respect for him as a person.

    RIP Mom- 1932-2012

I think this thread should be shut down before it veers further into ugliness. There is a reason that the rule of the forums prohibits political discussions. Let's stick to sports and play on the field. >>

    I agree.

Pretty sad that a few people here are making excuses for his lame comments. Racism is racism!!

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

Agree. Too many in this nation believe that they have earned a free pass.

If you look at the dramatic increase in prices of Aaron's cards the past few years, it pretty well suggests that collectors are at least valuing his record.

Yes, early 70s are moving up significantly, but Aaron and Mays are leading the way.

    Barry Bonds* (Who Cares?)
    Hank Aaron 755
    Babe Ruth 714
    Willie Mays 660

and who's next Alex Rodriguez at 654 and counting? No one is going to credit him for anything. Not now - not EVER.

    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!

I completely agree with that last statement. I wonder how consistently that line of thinking is applied.

Tried em once when they came out in the early 1960's, the marshmallow charms were slimy when the milk was applied.

Hope that they fixed the recipe.
