Modern Lesher Dollar- What Ya'll Think?

image

Too much modern, not enough old school. Interesting imprinting to order idea.

MHO.

I can never get excited about this "retro -modern" stuff. It is like the Gallery Mint copies. When I was a young collector it might have grabbed me, but now now.

I would like to buy one of the original Lesher coins, but since I have been looking I have mostly seen coins with problems that were sometimes not marked on the slabs, like filed rims.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

There are a few modern Lesher's that could be interesting to collect:

    - DC piece
    - Restoration piece
    - ANA Referendum piece

I wonder if anyone has this modern short set?

Will Daniel stamp the purchaser's name on his pieces like the originals?

Ah, would be cool to have one's own name stamped into history image *hint*

These can be ordered with any desired imprint (so long as it isn't already used by someone else, isn't a copyright violation, and isn't offensive or inappropriate).

Very cool, but would have a hard time owning for any amount much greater than melt.

There is also a bronze Colorado Wyoming Numismatic Association (CWNA) medal from the 1980s that has a Lesher-like design on one side and is octagonal in shape.

That's actually not half bad. I own a "real" Lesher dollar (Slusher #75, PCGS AU55). I think dcarr's history and location makes this a natural for him.

So I have to ask, dcarr: Gold?

That looks like a fairly nice one. A couple small rim dings (many have that or worse, and/or other issues).
I've only seen one with any kind of "cartwheel" luster. They generally seem to look cleaned and re-toned much of the time.

probably because they are "cleaned and re-toned" but with some coins/medals it just doesn't matter.

Just received my personalized Lesher dollars and love 'em. I also got a 5-oz Clark Gruber bar. Two of my favorite issues in a while image

I too got a few of these and really like the result; very well executed IMO. Way to go Dan. The 5 oz bar is also one of my favorites..

I just received mine from Mr. Carr and it is beautiful. I collect Lesher Dollars so this was just an interesting side piece.

Today I received an non-inscribed Lesher commem and a brass cob. Very nice! The beveled edges on the brass really make that piece twinkle.
