Paypal question

I just sold someone a card in a private transaction. They asked me to send them an invoice. I hadn't ever done that, but I was willing to, and I did. Now I receive the payment, and I see paypal won't let me claim this money without linking my bank account or opening a credit card. What BS is this and is there any way around it? I expressly wish not to link any bank accounts to my paypal account to keep it simple. Please advise.

The PayPal FAQs say: You can also withdraw money from your PayPal balance by requesting a check. (There’s a fee of $1.50 USD for check withdrawals.) PayPal

I would suggest linking your bank account. It makes the simple and it's efficient.

If I link my bank account, will I still be allowed to use my credit card to fund payments instead of the bank account? That's what I prefer to do.

To be clear, the money is NOT in my paypal balance. It is "unclaimed" and I can't claim it without "verifying my account," which means adding funding sources I don't want to add.

This. You can specify which is the default payment option and which is the backup.

Are you sure? I was under the impression that the hierarchy would always default to

    1. Paypal balance
    2. Bank account
    3. Credit card

And that manual override during each payment was required to circumvent it.

I believe that the PayPal balance is the first default option. That being said you can specify which other account you want to pay with in the second position.

I have both my bank account linked and a credit card and choose when I am paying which route to take.

Yes, to clarify, any existing PayPal balance is the default. Then you can specify which payment option is #2 and #3. I overlooked the PP balance angle, since mine is almost always zero! imageimage

You can choose any option of payment as first choice. I have paypal credit as mine even though I have a cash balance. This way my purchase on eBay earn extra eBay bucks on purchase.

The only problem I've ever had is when I have a PayPal balance and want to run something through my credit card, PayPal always seems to want to use the PayPal balance and then bill the balance to the credit card. I've had to withdraw the PayPal balance before using the credit card in order to get the whole purchase charged to the card.
