Well, at the risk of being hit with a "this thread is useless without pictures" fine, I have a good story about getting a certain coin I've been eyeballing for over a year. Here's how it went down:
1) Coin appeared in a 2011 auction, where it went for $2,875 with the juice. I saw it way too late- 2 years later.
2) Was listed on a dealer's website for somewhere around $3,400 last summer, and the dealer lowered the website price, then offered it to me for $3,100 after telling me he paid $3,000 for it.
3) Someone else bought the coin off eBay before I could answer him.
I didn't want to pay $3,100 for it anyway. Too much.
4) Coin reappeared on eBay for a price north of $3,000. Different seller, I believe. Was discussed on this forum in a "which coin do you like better?" thread. It unanimously won due to its pretty toning and CAC bean. I guess the OP did not buy it, despite the thread results.
5) Coin sat on eBay for a while, then finally went "on sale" for 10% off. I hit "Buy It Now", and was denied!

The seller was allegedly away for a week!
6) Coin was no longer on sale when the seller returned.

7) Coin appeared in an eBay auction with a starting bid of slightly under $2500 yesterday. I forgot about it due to football!

8) Coin didn't sell, so it appeared as a Buy it Now for slightly under $2500 this morning. It's mine!
I will refrain from posting it for one reason: if the seller is a member here, they might not feel so good about the closing price, minus Paypal & eBay fees. Just trying to be respectful. But if you're dying to know what it is, I'll send a TruView via PM.

i love happy stories and this read like a great one too
congrats to you and the coin finding a happy home
just one coin. lol
when a person does this full-time, they have a lot of stories. HA!
it is almost comical to watch the spiderweb a coin travels sometimes and the events/irony surrounding it.
.
Even nicer when you get it for a good deal. Most of the time end up overpaying for the thing you covet.

Yes, and sometimes when they do it is through the very generous and thoughtful gestures of others.
Rhedden, I can't wait to see the coin you acquired. If it is like virtually everything else you have posted, it will be well worth the wait.
<< <i>Glad you got your coin. Rarely does one get so many chances. >>
Yeah, that coin has seen a lot of turnover.

I can't believe it ended up in the stale inventory category on eBay after all this time. It was described to me as "a monster" by a well-respected dealer who owned it at one time. It does have a CAC sticker as well. The coin was just priced too high for such a long time. After a while, people get tired of seeing it, and start thinking it's been recycled on eBay because it's dreck.
