Let's judge some packs! scan heavy

Thanks to this group and a few board members who set me up with some great items, I have a nice start to a decent unopened collection spanning 1970-present.

Here is a group of unopened that I received today from a single seller on Ebay that will be going to Steve Hart to take a look at.

In this lot, I have a 68 pack, a 75 Mini pack, 3 1977 Cloth packs, a 1980 pack, and 3 1979 OPC packs.

I figured I would share the before picture asking for opinions and then share Steve's input once he has had a chance to examine/return them.

Looks to me like he uses the same dirty iron to reseal these.

Suffice to say, I have my doubts and am coming around to appreciate other board members who mention, "most of that non-authenticated unopened Ebay stuff is fake".

Thanks for your input.

I saw this lot and actually bid on it to try and grab cheap

One reason I bid was that the 75 mini was so beat up that i thought a reseller would have used a better pack.

No idea, but yeah don't like how the backs all look sears similarly

seller has a 14-day return policy. why not just send them back?

It wasn't until I tweaked the post via preview a few times and saw the large scans that it became blatantly obvious that these are dirty and would not pass Steve's scrutiny - hence the dirty iron comment.

You are right, I wouldn't waste Steve's time on these and will send them back.

I am far from Tim's level, but it appears to me that the 1979 OPC packs could be okay. Most of the others - yikes.

Was it normal for any year for Topps/OPC to miss the seal and leave a small part of the card exposed on the back?

I have opened a ton of stuff over the years but don't remember ever seeing that. Can't say I was looking, however, as unopened material never lasted long enough to examine.

68 is definitely resealed. Don't like corner folds on 75 mini, either.

77 cloth, 80 and 79 OPC may be good. Hard to tell for sure from the scan. Of the lot, I agree with Scott~79 OPC seems most likely authentic.

A piece of the card exposed on back of the pack does necessarily mean it's resealed, as even authentic packs were not always perfectly wrapped.

Normal no, but yes it has happened many times. With that being said I don't like any of them from the pic's but would need to have them in the flesh for a true determination.

How do the roller marks look? I agree with Tim, but if they look good, which I doubt, I would send to Steve. If not, use the return policy ASAP and save the $. The dirt on the reverses may or may not be iron burn, hard to tell. But the corner wear and overall funky stuff going on with the wrinkles all over the packs leads me to believe no good. Except for the OPC.

obviously the most expensive pack is the '68--if that's bad--which it is--then why even discuss the others?

    The bait was the '68

Well, he did ask us to judge them all (not just the 1968), and I thought it would be helpful to point out which packs may be good and why - that is, a "dirty" back doesn't necessarily mean resealed.

Not sure, but should the flap with the lettering on the back ever be on the bottom??

    Nice pack run!

I sold the 1980 packs to Mike. I bought them from Steve in September.

    Good luck with your collection

Thanks Robert.....the 2 you sold me are not pictured here. The ones I got from you were wrapped tight, have no concerning marks on the seal and have the look and feel of legitimacy.

The ones pictured above, not so much!

Thanks all for your input - those pictured above are already packaged and heading back to the orignal seller for a refund.

Good. I didn't think mine looked that dirty. I'm glad that you are happy.

    Again, best of luck!

Is this what you're talking about? These are some 89 Topps Hockey that I just pulled out of a box. Been pretty common thus far.
