First example of Judd 9 graded by PCGS!

Very cool coin! I love the 1792 patterns!

I can't recall seeing a silver ever, but the example of J-10 (The copper version of this coin) in the Smithsonian is a beast, one of the highlights of my vault trip this summer!

Great coin and a miracle of survival !!
  • There were previously three known examples of Judd-9. This does not match any of them. I am guessing this is the Kendall Foundation coin. I would like to know the certification number.

It's not mine either, but at least I get to play with it.

This is the Kendall Foundation coin, to be sold by StacksBowers in March 2015. It's a totally new example. It was acquired privately from Stack's in June 1975 on the same day as the magnificent Birch cent.

It will be offered with 6 NE shillings, an NE sixpence (a real one!), a literal fistful of Willow Trees, a Silver Center cent, well over 100 pieces of additional Mass silver, other notable colonial rarities (many plated in Crosby and other standard references), an original CSA half, and some other fun things. The collection contained one certified coin when I first saw the group over the summer. One.

But all the good coins are known and nearly all are already slabbed, right?

  • "It was acquired privately from Stack's in June 1975" I realize Pistareen wasn't born yet, but for some of us 1975 is not that long ago. Where was it before 1975 and how did it avoid detection prior to that?

I don't understand? - If this is a totally new example than how is it dated "1792"?

If I have a 1850 coin then is this considered a modern coin? LOL

BTW - all outstanding coins simply magnificent and can't wait to see those coins from the set.

That coin is sick. How lucky are we that we collect in the internet age, where we have access to images like this at the push of a button.

Can you please take a family picture with all of them together? That would be a sight to see. A handful of NE shillings would be incredible.

This coin is a perfect example of why people should not get all hung up on "perfection." The coin has a few problems. I don't care. I would be most pleased and proud to own it.

WOW! Just WOW! So who is going to take the hit on that? Will Stacks make the owner whole????
  • valente151valente151 Posts: 1,068 ✭✭✭
I wonder if they know much about the coin as an electrotype, i.e. if it was done at the mint like the 1804 dollar that was slabbed a few years ago. I'd assume if they have history of it, it could still have value.
  • Yikes!! It does have an electro kind of look to it.

Looks like the electrotype may have been made from the following disme in copper that's plated in the Breen Proof book. Notice the contact marks in the reverse fields. Maybe someone has a better image of this coin?
