Said goodbye to an old friend today--rare unopened

well--I don't normally sell unopened--but when I do-------

Have had this beauty in my collection for over 7 years. Figured it would be with me a lot longer. But a very respected collector of unopened has wanted this pack almost from the day I got it. He has somehow been able to collect 3 others (I believe that there are only 6-8 in existence)--and really wanted this one to add to his collection.

So we made a deal. I really did not want to sell it--but he was very passionate about acquiring it--and I knew that having it in his collection would mean more to him than me having it in mine. I figured out a couple of years ago that while it is great to have something rare and great in my collection--sometimes it means more to another collector than it does to me. So it was with great joy that I sold this tray to a good guy and passionate collector with a great unopened collection. He is not a board member and the terms of the deal we agreed will remain confidential.

Enjoy your new tray my friend!

    That is one sweet tray.

Great that it's going to another caring home.

Manny, That's great, Congrats to the buyer and to you for allowing it to move on to another collector. I recently sold a HUGE portion of my collection. It was a compelling deal, and I figured why the heck not. I never planned on dying with my cards, so I moved on. I'm not sure I could have done or said that a year ago, but we all grow throughout life. I hope you put the funds toward something you will enjoy. Have a nice weekend.

I've seen you post a picture of that tray in other threads. I really admired it myself, and I can imagine that it was tough to give up. Its nice that it is going to another unopened collector, and now you can roll those funds into something else that you will enjoy image

Great deal all around. He'll be excited to add it and you get funds for something good. Like others, I'm interested to see what you pick up.

The buyer has been emailing me. He's contemplating ripping the individual trays and constructing an authentic 1969 Topps Wax Box. I thought that would be pretty neat, but I like the trays image

I sold a very special F. Scott Fitzgerald item to his museum when I found out I was going to be a father. To be honest, I would have sold it to anyone then, but it makes me feel better to this day that it was to the museum.

It's great when things like this happen. Happy for you and the new owner!

Very cool item. Hopefully the buyer can locate a wax box. I'd like to see the trays survive.

I"m not sure he's serious about ripping the tray. Not his style either. He's just very happy that he's got a full box worth of packs, and that they are in trays.
And Manny, it certainly does mean a lot to him- he's sent out at least half a dozen emails about it in the last 3 days!

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

So true Anthony ... he is so happy about obtaining his 19th - 24th packs that he sent me the same email numerous times. We spoke about the 24 packs he now has and he told me he would NEVER rip them and put them in a box. Said the packs were never in a box to begin with and to do that and get the box sealed would not be the right thing to do. He may get a little too passionate about his unopened material at times, but he is a true collector and loves the hobby.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

You should have him take a photo of them all together and let you show it here.

Beautiful tray, Manny~last year of the 6-pack tray (and 5c wax packs) before Topps changed the tray for the 3-pack 1970 trays.
