I know proof lincolns are no longer "in vogue"

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,790 ✭✭✭✭✭
but I just had this one crossover and had the Trueview done.
Was NGC, now PCGS.

Feel free to guess the grade or, if you don't want to guess, I am posting the image with the cert# and you can just look it up....just please don't ruin it for others by showing how "good you are at grading images" if you do look it up first.

I've had this one for almost 7 years. Purchased from another forum member back then. I usually buy proof IHCs, for copper proofs, but he had this one listed and the price was within range for me, so I bit. I like it.
I've played, over the years, with selling it, but never put any effort into that. It very well may be stuck with me for awhile as my only Lincoln proof image

    Either 63 or 64. Call it 63+.

(Disclaimer: I know bupkis about grading copper)

From that picture, I'd guess PR63+BN.

Of course, these aren't too easy to grade from a single photo image

64rb...65 on a good day...i am more so on the 65rb side of that guess
truly only that spot below liberty catches my eye...in an overall

very pleasing and sweet example...i hope you're happy you kept as it's a beauty regardless of what a grading company calls it

What a great coin to have. Be careful, you could cut yourself on those rims.

Agreed. Totally out of style. That suit Lincoln is wearing looks like something from 1864!

All joking aside, these early matte proof cents are quite popular, despite their high cost, and the example you have shown is wonderful.

    That's a nice looking 1910 MPL.

I am terrible at guessing PCGS grades, but I would estimate PR64 ... I see no bad distractions.

65+BN or RB. Owner should care not about color as "defined" by the label. Merely beautiful. Spot noted or I'm in 66 territory very easily.

Now to check the cert to see if they got it right.

    edited to add: image

    edited again to add: WTF?
edited yet again to add: You are so totally NOT stuck. Leave it the holder and, whenever you sell, quote a 1 1/2 pt premium for the color. First send it to CAC for the gold

I like it. Apparently can't grade it from the picture, but I like it.

Congratulations on the cross. I have a 1912 MPL that is 65BN PCGS / CAC and yours looks cleaner, so I will guess 66 RB.

Gorgeous coin. I obviously have no idea how to grade these either as I would have thought much, much higher. Beyond saying that, I'm not going to embarrass myself.

My first thought was 66, if it's not a 65, they are way too tough on these.

Regardless of the grade - Nice Coin! and I think the MPL is still in vogue. Those past years too many folks were looking at cash and not the coin. If anyone has not looked, they are much more reasonable these days so if you think you might like one, I think you can find one in your budget. JMHO

I don't think MPLs were ever out of favor (not popular ) at any time or in any place, they're just not common. Yours is very nice looking (with the exception of that spot in Abe's sideburn) and my thoughts were 65. Sweet coin.

...and no doubt a Brooks Brothers, which was his preference.

Great looking 1910. My first impression was 65BN. I love the cameo appearance on the obverse. I can never get over how much detail these MPLs show. The hair, beard and overall features are just incredible.

    Thanks all.

Colonel....thanks. I actually hadn't thought of that. Was just going to SDB it when it got back, but may put a few coins together for CAC that are coming back from PCGS.

Photos are hard to grade from, though they are useful for finding negatives a lot of times, in order to knock grades down. In this case, Lincolns are like Washington Quarters for me....not easy for me to grade but I still wonder about this grade. Especially being a proof.

    Abe has character though image

I won't hazard a grade guess - will just say I like it a lot. Wouldn't mind owning a MPL someday. image

First of all, any MPL thread is a good thread. They are never out-of-favor. There is a constant demand for these beauties. Like most sets currently, the average and below-average MPLs are showing weakness. The "A" coins continue to appreciate and show strong demand.

Back to your coin - a nice one. Hard to grade MPLs from a trueview. I'm a big fan of Phil's and the product, but the luster on these is hard to capture if you're going to get the color. I would say given the toning breaks on the obverse this is a 64 RB. I assume the reverse isn't that orange color as well. The MPL trueviews seem to make the golden/red colors more orangy for some reason. Now I will check the cert # and see what a boob I am.
