Do you ever decide to sell your collection, and then.....
and then you take the coins out to look at them, and then you decide that they are too nice to sell?

Nice coins are NOT anywhere near as easy to find as they once were and are getting tougher with each passing year.

As for selling my collection, I know that I have quite a number items that would hard to replace in today's market with what I'm perceiving as some depressed prices. The trouble with low prices is that the guys who have the nice coins won't offer them for sale unless they perceive that the lower prices are here to stay for the foreseeable future. Temporary drops in price might look like opportunities, but usually they aren't because there is nothing to buy at those levels.
Here is an example. The 1808 quarter eagle is one of the top type coins in the U.S. series. I bought this one at the top of the market, and I'm probably "buried" for the moment. This piece is graded AU-50, but when I look at what's available in AU-50 holders at the lower prices, they always seem to have a problem, like a big, noticeable mark that would bug me if I owned the coin. Given the issue with the marks, it makes you wonder how much the prices have really fallen.
So far I've gotten as far as moving invoices into a folder marked "Sell" for items which should be sold

Well.........no.
But I do get reminded of what my original intentions were.
The name is LEE!
Of course, I came back about a year later, but I was much better off because of the experience.
I have coins I've considered selling for quite a few years and I get overwhelmed when I bring them home from the bank and take them all back.
Exactly!!!
That's what I'm sayin'. I've been contemplating selling for about 2 years, and then I turn around and buy another coin, as nice as I can afford. It's not a Large Cent collection that competes with the "big boys" but it's become a pretty nice set over the years, if I do say so myself.
I know that the market's not hot. I know that selling is always a roll of the dice, too. I know that if I dump my set now, I won't be able to get them back for anywhere in the same neighborhood for what I've paid, so it would have to entail a "no looking back" attitude on my part.
Question for MidLifeCrisis - why'd you come back, and why do you say that you're better off for the experience?
I knew it would happen.
I'm better of for the experience because I was able to put the money to other good uses; because I was able to prove to myself and to my wife that I could sell everything, make some money, and walk away; and because it enabled me to come back a year later and start over with a fresh perspective and a different collecting focus.

My interest in the hobby in general has waned since I changed jobs at the beginning of the year, and I don't have the time to browse eBay for cherries like I used to. We're also looking at buying another home early next year, so the temptation to sell has never been greater.... then I take the coins out to sell them and I remember why I love collecting them.

Ouch, kick a man when he is down.

Sounds like my regret selling my complete Buffalo Nickle collection. Kicking myself everyday. Even contained some Buff. varieties. Oh well?
