I've wanted this card for the last several years. I think it's Grove's most significant card and it's in the Top 250 Sportscards registry set. As the #1 card in the set, it's almost never seen without a lot of print, dark toned borders and dull colors, so when PWCC listed this PSA 4 with bright white borders, vibrant colors and hardly any print I just had to have it.
Yes, I spent nearly $200 over SMR but compare my 4 to the latest PSA 5 and PSA 6 that have sold.
My PSA 4 ($493)
PSA 5 (sold by PWCC in same auction as mine for $728.99); PSA 6 sold on eBay for $942.78 in March

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Fantastic eye and buy, my friend. Congrats, you must be pumped!

<< <i>Great card. Your 4 definitely tops the 5 and 6 for eye appeal. >>
+1
I'll take that 4 over the other 2 all day.

Doug: It is a '34. It lists his 1933 W-L record on the back and has the 1934 copyright.

AH, OK. I was not familiar with the set. Just looked it up and saw that it's listed as "1934-1936 Diamond Stars". Since the others you list show "1935" on the Flip, does that mean the cards were printed in all three years with the same picture? Since the "GUIDES" don't differentiate between years, are all three years valued the same? If so, seems a bit of an oddity.

Some cards have variations and correspondingly these have different prices based on scarcity. My Diamond Stars card is a 1935 because of the team shown on the uniform. Even within a year, there can be variations in the color type used on the back. Not familiar with other guides, but if you look in the Beckett Almanac.... yes, the cards are lumped together under one "set" heading, but you'll see distinctions like (35G) next to the individual cards. (G is for green type on back).
