#311 Whale Caught!

I have been searching for one of these for quite some time. Glad I finalized the deal for this baby before too many guys read MattyC's post about how rare a #311 is with good centering and no tilt!

It is an even tougher task when shopping in such a narrow grade bandwidth. Not that I would ever sell this in my life now, but I bet it could get a 2 on a good day. Many thanks to Sean B. for an amazing deal.

The vertical scratches in the mid-left area are on the holder and not the card.

Overall, an easy card to find.

In that grade, with that eye appeal? NOT easy! Nice pickup!

That is a great looking card. If you are interested in getting the scratches off the case, pick up some Novus acrylic scratch remover. It works very well on light to moderate scratches.

    Very nice!

Why would they put "rookie" on the label though?

Really nice card and pick up...

I used to love SGC holders but I just think they are ugly now and the new flip? Sigh....What could have been.

  • Thanks for all the kind words. This has to be the most excited I've ever been to add a card to the collection.

Love the SCG holders. They are the most attractive.

IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED

I concur; have actually been thinking about crossing all my Pre-70s cards to those black holders.

Growing up in the 80's, I think that image is hardwired into our brain-- and to this day produces a Pavlovian response. Even moreso when it is centered. I just love the way white bordered cards pop like that in the SGC holder. Next time I can get to a show where they are grading, I am going to cross mine so it displays like that.

  • Centered mantles nice mantle. Next challenge is to get one centered but with a deep blue surface to upgrade to. That's the challenge and fun of the hobby you can always upgrade and never settle if you are in the hobby for a long time.
