My 1,000th post - looking back at where it all started

Three years ago I joined the CU boards after months of lurking. I had an idea of purchasing Topps baseball wax boxes covering 1971-1980 and had been researching all the prior unopened sales I could locate. I really wanted to tick off the 1971 box first, but I could not find an example of a 1971 Topps box coming up for sale for several years. So I asked here and all around. Eventually, I did manage to hunt one down - BBCE authenticated even. I recall picking it up with my then girlfriend, now wife. I was so excited. She thought I was crazy - the dollar amount and keeping it wrapped up in cellophane. Seemed pointless to her and she didn't really even know what was inside. Her thinking was not lost on me, and I became determined to come up with a way to better share what would hopefully become my unopened collection with people who do not collect. The photo below is representative of the approach I take for each of my unopened boxes. I like it. She likes it. All is good. I have not seen or heard of another 1971 Topps baseball wax box sale since I picked mine up, so I really count myself lucky. While I am a little disappointed that many of the 1970s boxes now sit in an off-site vault, I have display boxes in their place and I really can't tell the difference when looking at them.
Along the way I have gotten to know many great people on the boards (e.g., Grote, CPAMike, Mojorob, 1954, 70sToppsFanatic, ClockworkAngel). I've learned much and still have much to learn, but my passion for the hobby has only grown over time. Thanks to you all for making these forums a wonderful place to swing by for the past three years. I look forward to the next three.

Congratulations on your 1000 posts!
Very nice words. I've learned a lot over my decade here.
Here's to 1000 x 10 more posts.
Awesome piece. If it's full of packs, unbelievable!
<< <i>Is that a framed photo of a graded pack? >>
No, Scott actually custom made the frame to fit his pack. Definitely more talented than a CPA.
I can't believe you have been on here for 3 years already. Times flies when you are having fun. Glad to have gotten to know you and look forward to the next 3 years worth of discussions!!!
Btw, nice 1971 box.

Are you kidding me....I've been on these boards for 13 years and have no idea where the time has gone.
Congrats on 1,000 posts. I just recently downed my 3,000 post myself.
Later, Paul.
71 is my birth year and I just want a pack one of these days.
Thanks for sharing.

Hiya Mike
You're not alone.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
The box is full and the pack is real. That said, while building the collection, I did have color copies of some packs framed up and empty display boxes on my shelf. It's nice to know I could replicate the look of the collection for a few hundred dollars, should the need or desire come up to sell.
