I hope the show has good attendance from both dealers and the public considering all the bad press Minnesota has had over the past few years regarding numismatics.

If I make it this year, it will be on Saturday. I'd like to be there, but I also don't want to make the 3 hour round trip drive if it's going to be a bust because of the Bullion Law debacle. I would greatly appreciate if you would post your first impressions or a short report on Friday with regard to number of dealers, etc.

    Cheers.

The show is 96% sold out- 4 tables available. There are a number of out of state dealers attending. I'll have the in-state and out-of-state breakdown tomorow. In view of the "occasional show only" exception in the MN Coin Dealler Bullion law where the MN Department of Commerce is reading as "two" (i.e., "occasional" is "two") we do not expect issues for those dealers just setting up at the MOON (the one coming this weekend) and the Northwest Show (March, 2015). Many of the MN dealers, and at least one out-of-state dealer, that attend the other monthlhy shows on a more regualr basis are registered under the law.

I should make it- hopefully later Friday and/or Saturday AM.

Good to hear that the tables are mostly sold out. If they do not completely sell out, perhaps the book dealer can get a real table inside the main room. image With the new anti-hobby/PM legislation, it will be interesting to see which dealers return/do not return, and if any new faces show up. As the first large show since July 1st, it seems to me it would be best for the gov't goons to just lay low and not show up and harass anyone.

On the question of the level of out of state dealer attendence at the MOON show this year, there is an even split of in-state and out-of-state dealers for the 110 tables sold.

Good luck with those that set up and attend. I have done the Spring show in the past and always enjoyed the collectors and fellow dealers at the show. Under the current laws in Minnesota though I can no longer afford to attend or even sell to customers in the state now. The exception being mentioned isn't being allowed as stated unless there is something more I don't know about. I am deeply saddened by this and would like to attend and do my small amount of business in this state. I know I am far from alone in this as I have spoken to many other dealers that are in the same situation. Even Heritage has stopped selling in Minnesota!

Hopefully wiser heads will prevail someday so a small occasional business isn't impacted by levels of paperwork and expenses in order to do business. Don't get me wrong I have no problem paying a sales tax for a show I attend and do. But to have to post a bond, which banks won't issue unless you are giant corporation or its backed 100% by a CD (as an ex-banker a few years back I know how small businesses have to back up a bond), its just not reasonable or feasible or economical to do it. Regretfully, I can't participate. image

I'm not sure what information you have, but the MN Department of Commerce maybe be able to clarify this. I know of at least one out of state dealer attending the show, who is not a registered "MN Bullion Coin Dealer", and was concerned about the new law. The dealer contacted the MN Department of Commerce to discuss his situation and his intention to attend the show. He was satisfied with their answers and is setting up at the show.

The show is now sold out, and a waiting list to begin if there are any last minute dealers that wish to set up. There are 117 tables, where the out-of-state deaelers out number the in-state dealers.

Also, as I posted in another thread (Link), for those attending the Baltimore show near the end of the month, ITCA will have a session on the MN Bullion Coin Dealer Law, Friday, October 31 in Room 305 of the Baltimore Convention Center.

Is there a list of all the dealers that are attending this show? I can't find anything on the web about the show except the date.

    Thanks!

Went to the show today (Saturday) when the show opened. Attendance seemed about half what it normally is. Almost all the dealers I talked with said they were buying way more than they were selling which is what I observed as well. Heard a lot of dealers talking about the new Minnesota coin law and even saw dealers with a print out explaining the law to customers. Not sure if this was handed out at the show or not but many dealers seemed to have a copy. As mentioned earlier, all the tables were occupied and there was a great selection of coins. Honestly, I think it would have been a great buying opportunity for collectors because the traffic was so light.

One of the most interesting things at the show for me was when I was selling. I had a group of coins that I was selling. Went to three dealers who did not want to even make an offer. The fourth dealer made an offer of $875. Fifth dealer offered $1,400 which was at bid. It always amazes me the different offers you get at a show and reminded me to make sure you know how much you want for your coins if you are going to sell. I wonder how many people take the first offer they get and leave money on the table.

All in all I had a great time and enjoyed the show because it was not busy at all. Dealers had plenty of time to talk and make deals. Did make a nice trade for a new bust quarter that I will have to photograph and post later.

While attendence at the show was less than reecnt past shows, I heard most dealers were fine with the show, and were happy. We had a very good show both selling, and especially buying. As mentioned earlier the tables were full of deaelers, over half of which were out-of-state dealers. Despite the recent stories of MN Government interference with the coin dealers through various regulations and enforcement, there were no actual issues reported at the show. Perhaps with all the talk before the show some potential attendees thought the show would be a dud, lack dealers, etc, and choose not even to stop by ... turns out they missed a good show. We hope attendence picks up for the Nothwest Coin Cliub Shows is back to normal levels in March.
