OT: Need good thoughts and prayers...UPDATE

Hey friends,

I'm hesitant to write something, but I will because I feel it can only benefit. For the last 3-4 months I've been having some medical issues. I didn't want to say anything while stuff was going on with Mike Kelley because I didn't want to take any attention away from that. However, these last few months have been very difficult. I've found quite a bit of solace reading your posts, responding, etc. Normal life has been difficult at times and my family has had to endure quite a bit., especially my wife as she's had to take care of our kids and our home many times by herself because the pain has been so severe that I can't get out of bed.

Right now the pain is day to day. I usually have severe pain in the morning and late evening, but most recently throughout the day. The Dr.'s are not sure what's going on and tomorrow I go in for a test that should help rule out one more thing or find that it is what's been going on.

Comparatively, my pain and what I'm going through is nothing to what Mike's family or others on here have been through, but I would appreciate any prayers or good thoughts tomorrow as I have this test done.

I'm not big on small enclosed spaces, which is where I will be for about 3 hours. I'm nervous about this whole thing and trying not to psych myself out. I've had some really bad experiences in the past with Dr.'s and so it stresses me out when this kind of stuff happens.

So yeah, if you guys could just be praying for me or sending good thoughts...I would really appreciate it. Would mean a lot. Thanks.

    Chris,

My prayers are with you. Hoping the Dr. finds out what is causing the pain and that it will be a simple cure. REMEMBER, stressing yourself out over it can NOT make it get better. Having positive thoughts will make it a lot easier to go through whatever it is. Good Luck.
    STAY HEALTHY!

    Chris,

Don't know you, but my thoughts and prayers are with you as well. When you're going through the tests, remember that your friends here have prayed and are praying for you. In times of stress like this, it is good to know that we are not alone.

Hope everything goes smoothly and that they identify whatever the issue is. As for the small spaces, I hope that you
find a way to not let it get to you. Maybe you can try a variation on counting sheep and try to visualize cards or try
to remember each card of your favorite set? Just close your eyes and the time may go faster.

  • I listen to music to calm my mind. So if you have something that you can do to keep your mind going do it. Think of each card in your collection one by one focus on the detail what you like and what you want to do next. I find that works for me when I need to keep my mind calm. Breath deep slow breaths.

I will be happy to pray for you. Best of luck!

Hoping the doctors can finally provide a diagnosis for you. It's always easy for us to take good health for granted until it's no longer the case. Think of your favorite cards or some of the better stories you've read on these forums. It will help put you in a better state of mind. I enjoy your posts and truly hope you will be okay.

It sucks being sick. It sucks even more not knowing what is wrong. That said, the most important thing of all is your outlook. Stay positive and do what you have to do.

Unfortunately, been there, done that. Fortunately, still able to write about it and tremendous support from the wife, kids and whole family meant the world.

Best of luck in your test. May you get through it and learn what is wrong and find that it is fixable.

  • Hey everyone,

Wow, I really appreciate all of you and your thoughts and prayers. I just got home from my test. I thought it was going to be harder than what it was. The staff made me feel very comfortable and treated me extremely well. They even turned on a movie to help me focus on something else. Should know something in the next couple of days and will post once I know.

Again, I appreciate you all and your support with prayers and encouragement.

    Chris,

I've been away from the computer so I'm sorry for the late reply. I love your website, business model, as well as all that you contribute here and wish you and your family the very best through this difficult time in your lives.

I'm 33 with a fiance and 15 month old son. The gray hairs and back aches have finally arrived, but we shouldn't take a healthy day, ever, for granted.

  • Well friends...my test came back normal. Which is good in one sense, but we are back to the drawing board. So yeah. I have noticed, though, that my pain increases in stressful situations, so I'm working on trying to de-stress as much as possible. Continued prayers are appreciated.

Figure out what makes you feel good/relaxed state of mind, and do that...for example...when I'm super stressed, I go for a run and I mentally feel a great deal better afterwards...glad to hear the tests are normal...positive vibes your way!!!

  • Hey friends,

I just got home from the GI Dr. I'm having a bunch of tests run at the end of this week. He's concerned about an number of things. The two biggest is that I have an elevated enzyme level in my liver that could potentially be non-alcoholic fatty liver. He's also concerned that I might have pre-cancerous Barrett's esophagus. The lesser of the two evils is potentially IBD or IBS.

I'm having a CT scan on Thursday and an endoscopy/colonoscopy on Friday. So I basically can't eat anything for 2 days.

Please continue to pray for me friends. My anxiety levels are going through the roof right now.

Chris, hang in there. My wife had a non-alcoholic fatty liver after her last pregnancy. She recently had blood work, and it has been resolved. Thus, it can be treated in some cases. I will continue to pray for you.

Do you have a history of severe heartburn/LPR?

As someone who's had my share of GI problems, I'm curious as to what type of pain you're experiencing?

IBS/IBD is what's called a functional GI problem. Another one is called functional dyspepsia. These functional problems mean there is nothing wrong that will show up in an endoscopy or other tests, but rather something is wrong in the functioning of the digestive system. Such problems are often related to stress/anxiety and will respond well to treatments that target those issues, such as meditation, psychotherapy, etc.

Please be clear that I'm not suggesting that such GI problems are "in someone's head". Quite the contrary, they are very real and physical. It's that the root cause is often emotional stress, which can cause very real physical problems, especially in the GI system. It's also frustrating that the symptoms themselves add to the stress, making things even worse.

Just offered as something to reflect upon, and I hope all of your tests come out encouragingly. I had an endoscopy last spring. I was certain I had an ulcer, yet the results were negative for ulcer/gastritis. My symptoms have improved since then with no real medical intervention, and I'm glad to have avoided taking PPI medications, which I'm very concerned can do more harm than good in the long run. Best of luck!

What you are diagnosed with sounds like me about 18 years ago. A change in diet cleared the liver issue up in a few months. I've had normal enzyme levels since.
My stomach issues turned out to be a food allergy. I am allergic to glutten. 18 years ago it was difficult to eliminate gluten from my diet because substitutes were hard to find. (Thanks to
an angel of a wife I was able to eat well and stay off gluten.) Now a days it's all the rage to avoid gluten so I have an alternative for even pizza, doughnuts, brownies etc...
Anyway when I cut gluten out of my diet I think it literally saved my life. At least my quality of life.
