(2) Vintage Hockey Wax Boxes - The Salvation Army?

I was looking around on eBay a few days ago and caught the auction below with just a couple minutes left. I don't know much at all about Hockey to be honest. I guess the cool looking old boxes caught my eye for some reason on this night. I clicked on the link, and had just enough time to look at the pictures and read the description. As I scrolled back up I noticed the seller was The Salvation Army (Atlanta). I remember thinking that I had no idea they even sold online. The high bid at the time was only around $10-$15. I took a second look at the pictures and thought, someone put in whatever the equivalent of Hockey's 1988 Donruss Baseball is, sealed these up and donated them as a joke. So I exited out of the auction and started to get up and then I sat back down. I thought, what if it's the real deal? It happens, right? So I clicked back into the auction and it still had just a few seconds left. I went for it. I put in a bid I could live with and time was up. I was the winner.
The boxes arrived yesterday via FedEx. I have to say that I honestly thought the boxes would be empty, contain commons, or maybe even some dirty socks. Needless to say when I opened the box and unwrapped everything, I was happily surprised. The boxes seem to be in very good shape. On one of them the tape was actually still sealed. That gave me some hope. Then I opened them slowly and peeked in. Below is what I found. I'm far from an unopened expert but these look legit to me. I really still can't believe it. Do these look good to you? I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks
Craig
#1 - These are 1977-78 and 1978-79 OPC, correct?
#2 - Would the "BBCE premium" be worth the cost to have these authenticated?

<< <i>If you were planning on selling them, I would absolutely send them to Steve to authenticate. You will realize way more than if you sold them "raw" so to speak.

<< <i>Way to go but you gotta feel a little bad for the Atlanta Salvation Army. >>
They're OK with this sort of thing. It's what brings people into stores and keeps their mission alive. I work for Goodwill and we intentionally sell high dollar items very very cheaply in order to increase traffic. Even if the buyer is going to flip it, it still helps the mission and community.
It's Salvation Army's policy to begin auction items at 9.95 and run them.
That is an unbelievable score! 70's OPC boxes in Atlanta? Unreal.
I've opened boxes from both years and I must say yours look clean as a whistle. They don't seem to exhibit any of the telltale signs of the gum damaging the cards either.
Group rip time????

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

If you send them to BBCEx and get the "seal of approval?"
Maybe we can attribute it to the crappy FB of the seller with respect to bidders?

I think if I had seen the auction I too would probably have assumed them to be empty or holding something other than what they should have in them.
