A coin of a coin? How quickly is this going to get old?

I'm speaking of course of the idea that the mint might be commemorating the mercury, walking liberty half, and the standing liberty quarter designs.
Commemorating the 50 year run of a current coin with a few finishing varieties and a gold coin makes sense to me(Kennedy). But commemorating old coins that will be reintroduced with reverse proof or enhanced or gold or COLORIZED, etc....... is this starting to seem silly to anyone else? Are the committees THAT out of ideas of things to commemorate? We still haven't commemorated the Navy, Air Force, Navy Seals, Rangers, Coast guard, 4 star Generals, Boot camp, Blue Angels, Camouflage, Desert Storm, Recruiters, Pyle, Top Gun, ....... There are plenty of choices!

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Either "they" never learn or "we" never learn.
The Granite Lady was extremely popular when it was released in 2006 but the quality was not anywhere NEAR what the quality was on the original Morgan Dollars. The coin quickly fell out of popularity and now its just another commemorative.
While the SLQ, WLH, and Flying Liberty were all extremely nice designs that many folks could spend hours looking at, the capability to reproduce this designs on today's equipment simply does not exist.
As such, anything they produce will have the same quality as one of Dan Carr's coins. Rounded letters. No relief. No detail. Just another coin.
IF the US Mint decides to pursue this stupidity, I won't follow suit.
The name is LEE!
And as always, there is the great caveat.

It would likely have retained its popularity if they had put the building on the reverse instead of the obverse.
And the 2001 Indian Head/Buffalo dollar would have been much less popular if they had used only the buffalo reverse and put some blah design on the obverse.

Dan Carr's coins look nice to me I would not mind one like this from our mint.
<< <i>It's simply a lack of original thinking. >>
I would agree it is along these lines, I would just add that I think it is more like a lack of talent in the space.
