One of the best pieces of advice in there that is often overlooked is in the middle. "Learn photography 101, because you can’t start in the middle of something." Chances are that for about $50-100, there's an intro to digital photography class near you that you can take. Perhaps it's at a community college or high school continuing education class, perhaps a workshop at a camera store, perhaps a Groupon deal near you. Knowing how and why to control the tools you're using will make it much easier to see through to the result you want.
I had a lot of questions after my last blog - and was surprised at how many of them were very advanced technical questions, yet the person couldn't answer the most basic questions about their own settings and equipment.
It's as if people jump in over their heads immediately, and then wonder why they're drowning. If you can't take a reliable snapshot with your iPhone, all the features and settings in the world on a pro-DSLR are not going to save you. More buttons are not the answer!
I was also thrilled with how many people were relieved to know they had missed several major steps along the way - and that they should get back to basics and try again.
