How much will this injury hurt RG3 cards?

I bid a ton and lose a ton, but SP Authentic Baylor patch autos were going $110-115 pretty consistently.

Tonight, one hammered at $61. I had another one get cancelled earlier today.

I'm watching a 2012 Chrome Prism auto that's at $255 and thinking maybe I should take a shot at it.

Sounds like his season is probably over. Is half the previous values a landing spot or is today an over-reaction?

Might be a good time to pick up a nice auto cheap. He can still come back and play well next year.

Um, yes - thanks for your input as usual image

I kind of think this could be true. I know a lot of people were holding on after last year hoping he'd play better and his cards would recover.

I've been trying to think of someone who was a high pick like that who got hurt a couple times and was actually able to come back - haven't come up with any good names yet.

Brady from a few years ago missed the whole year, but he was already a Super Bowl champ at that point so not really a good comparison. Drew Brees didn't miss any time between San Diego and Saints did he? He wasn't big time yet at that point.

Injury + snipe program problems (and ebay outages today) = very bad news for prices.

I suspect you're right, all those things probably contributed in some manner, particularly for today

Ultimately, he's still a Heisman winner so wondering if his Baylor items potentially hold up better - of course Charlie Ward and Eric Crouch won a Heisman too I guess, but I don't think they did Subway commercials so...

What made RG3 special was the running ability. Either injuries or the offense has limited his running. He isn't a good enough passer to be a hobby star solely on his arm. He can have a successful career if he follows Russell Wilson - 200 yds passing, 1-2 TDs, and 30 yards rushing per game, but that won't make him a hobby star unless he wins.

The play of Kirk Cousins will also make a difference. If Kirk keeps winning, it will make RG3 look bad since it will seem like he was the reason they were not winning.

I would hold off since the bottom is still to come.

I'll be VERY curious to see what his show autograph prices do. He's been consistently $125/cards and small flats since he debuted. I would think that Heisman winner claim to fame will keep them above the $50 level but probably not far above.

I would love a RG3 autographed cast... though probably not too rare.

I was actually having this discussion with someone before the season, regarding RG3 cards. I said he is too injury prone to ever have a long career in the NFL, similar to many running QB's...they simply do not have the stamina to take hit after hit and then it comes down to passing, which they are very average at. Cam Newton is one of the few that could adjust and perhaps Kaepernick, similar to McNair and to some extent Randall Cunningham, but the majority of great college QB's who were great partially because of their running skill have become hobby commons soon after their first few years....see Akili Smith, Daunte Culpepper, Vince Young, etc., even guys like Donovan McNabb and Michael Vick who did achieve some success were not able to keep it going long enough to make it into a hobby HOF career

Kirk Cousins should have been starting to begin with. I don't know why RG3's prices were so inflated.

Yeah, I think this is a good one. Culpepper was really good for a few years there, then he hurt his knee and it was over. RG3 is younger at this point, but so far the trend doesn't look good does it.

<< <i>Kirk Cousins should have been starting to begin with. >>

Certainly plenty of people seem to think this is true. If he was really that good, someone would have traded for him (they weren't really trying to get a 1st or 2nd rounder for him). Now he'll get his chance, I suspect it will look very similar to end of last year - he'll occasionally have a nice game, but will generally be in the 1 to 1 TD/INT ratio. They're not going to win even that weak division with Cousins as QB.

Bounce, you will be happy to know that his ankle is not broken.

Half of previous levels seems high to me, and I could see them hitting one-quarter by season's end, particularly if Cousins plays well. There's a decent chance we don't see him start another game - ever.

i heard today - silver lining i guess. sounds like they're saying "weeks" and not "months", they haven't put him to the injured list yet but I guess that could change at any point.

interesting tid bit on the story - Mark Adickes who is the doctor they kept interviewing today on ESPN played at Baylor before he played for the Chiefs/Redskins in the NFL, not sure why they don't mention that, and i think he may have even done the work on RG3s knee previously or certainly consulted on it anyway

I just think that he is way too mobile for a quarterback who is apparently prone to injury. This will not be his last injury if he continues to play the way that he does. Hopefully he will bounce back soon. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

i've been bidding and "offering" - i got a decent counter on a contenders but missed it by 5 minutes

i suspect i'll end up with a handful of auto cards for prices i'll be happy with

also looking at some refractors and other rookie PSA 10s / BGS 9.5s that i like
  • bouncebounce Posts: 1,094 ✭✭✭
ok - let's start with this one

I'm pretty happy with this for $40

    RG3 UD Black Auto

And to be honest, maybe I'm ready to change my tune about the Cousins debate. Actually, it would be AWESOME if Cousins played great and the Redskins decided to just part ways with RG3. We need a QB in Houston, RG3's from Texas, I would be beyond excited if that ever happened.
  • He's heading down the Vince Young path. He'll be out of the NFL before he's 29.
His cards will become commons when all is said and done. I'm sure he'll have his followers
because of play as a phenom rookie and being a former Heisman winner, but in the end, his future is dim
as far as card values go.

I'm only bumping this so everyone can be reminded of you're inability to just move on

You bring this all on yourself, sometimes it's just better to NOT hit send

So much for this post of yours

<< <i>So, I've been thinking about this thread today while around the house and mowing the lawn and would like to extend a sincere apology to those who I posted eBay usernames.
I don't know anything about pricing baseballs, so maybe the OP is right on the "value" of this ball, but I do believe that sending such a low offer compared to the asking price is just rude. With that said, the OP still shouldn't have received the onslaught that he did via eBay, and here, instigated by me.
This isn't an attempt to exonerate what I did. But I do want people to know that I am sorry for the drama.
