Need some buying advice...

I saved up for my white whale last summer, went to the National, and could only find one of the grade I'm interested in (but it was too OC for my liking), and nothing really popped up on eBay. Eventually that savings went into the bank and bought stuff from BBCE, probably paid bills, etc.
This summer I saved up again, and while it's been showing up more frequently, but the price has jumped about 33% in auctions, making the buy it now price even greater.
I'm trying to determine if I should just pull the trigger on a BIN, hold out on an auction (few and far between), wait it out and see if prices come down a little bit, or just go one grade lower. It's a lot of money, but I have been saving for this grade if the right one shows up. It will easily be the center of my collection, and would imagine that investment wise I wouldn't have a difficult time selling it if needed if I had to (Don't anticipate that anytime soon though).
Is there some other recommended sites for vintage besides eBay? Thanks.
If any of you vintage guys maybe would like to inbox me with advice, the card, etc, that would probably be helpful too. Again thank you in advance, you guys are the best.

Sometimes, there is some wiggle room if you can save the seller some fees, just
make sure it is a reputable seller with good feedback. You relinquish your safety net
if the card gets lost in the mail though.

Not true - get them to send you an invoice through Paypal, DO NOT USE GIFT
A regular Paypal invoice is pretty much same as with eBay - if it doesn't show up, you can file a claim
It hasn't been unusual for prices to jump by 1/3 or more in the past year, so I wouldn't let that alone be the deterrent. I would be more deterred if I would be paying an all-time high price in that grade and it's not a high-end example.
