Nice. And based on the pictures, I'd say it's significantly under-graded.

Andy, what attributes make you say so? I see wear from handling, so I'm definitely in the AU camp. I might go 53 but nothing 'significantly' higher. To me it's all in the hair. Seems slightly smoothed from finger rubbing.

    Agreed, it's very nice.

But with all due respect to Mr Eureka, I'm not seeing a MS coin. And not even a 58.

Maybe PCGS was being slightly conservative, but I'm with Lochness on this one. Too many hits on this coin (even the rims).

This coin looks to be typical for the strike. Take a good look at the high points and fields. The weakness in the scroll is due more to the strike. If the quality of the surfaces looks better in the photo than in hand- which I suppose is possible- there is a chance that it may not be under graded

The starting point in understanding the grade is that the design is in extremely low relief. Also, even the very few uncirculated pieces I've seen have had very shallow luster. So when I look at the picture for loss of detail due to wear, and for breaks in the luster, I see a coin that's much closer to "new" than most coins that I see graded 50. Of course, I might change my opinion after seeing the coin in person.

Me too, but only because I can't figure out where to sell it.

Dan - Since you still own it, bring it to a coin show and let's see what it looks like in hand!
