That's because they are foolish enough to believe that Pete is getting in to the HOF with the new commish. Ain't happening folks

At this point should his cards rise in value if he did get into the HOF?? He has HOF stats for his career, isn't this already built into the price of his cards??

couldn't disagree more. I think his cards hold more value by him NOT being in the hof. it's a source of constant topic and endless debate.

Yes and no. To his current collectors, he's considered a HOF'er regardless of what MLB/HOF says and priced accordingly. That said, there are many collectors of only HOF'ers cards/HOF RCs/etc. For those that haven't already taken the plunge and considered him a HOF'er and picked up the cards to fill their collecting focus, there could be additional demand (primarily on the RC I would assume) if he were ever officially inducted.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if the recent 25 year anniversary specials have brought more collector interest into the market than an official HOF induction would.
  • agreed with almost everything...but would say rose would almost have to be included in those who just collect hof'ers. usually there's always one exception to the rule, if just not for the sake of if he ever does. and he will, they may just have to stroll his coffin up there for his speech.

anyways, hof or not...$5100+ (twice) for a late career card is pretty stong!

That is a brutal card to find centered. Heck, even his 1981 card in PSA 10 is a 2K card.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • oh I know, grote! I have the 3rd set on the basic topps set, with # 1 and # 2 being almost uncatchable (kudos to them)....to me the 81, while cheaper, was more of a feat centering wise....

Pete is one of the top ten players of all-time loved and hated by many, but could never be accused of not giving 100%.

All-time team (Must have played in the 30's at least)

    1B Gehrig
2B Rose (he was all star at 5 positions i believe, so I will use him here)
    SS Jeter
    3B Schmidt
    OF Aaron
    OF Mays
    OF Ruth
    C Bench
    P Ryan
    DH Williams

    Top ten above

    2nd team

    1b Albert Pujols
    2b sandberg
    ss ripken
    3b Alex
    of bonds
    of griffey
    of musial
    c piazza
    p clemens
    dh frank robinson
Work hard and you will succeed!!

Mick must be puzzled why Ray Rice's sponsors all dropped him.

I love hearing about cards like these that I had no clue bring so much coin. Fascinating.

I had a chance to sit down with Pete for about 20 minutes or so in Vegas late last year and I walked away liking him far more than I thought I would. Really good guy, at least to me and my wife.
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

If it was announced tonight that Pete Rose was going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, that would create an astonishing amount of interest in Pete Rose across the entire hobby that could only increase prices.

This is an awesome baseball card.

I love the shot and design and the low pop puts it over the top.

Begsu is right in my view. Pete has been in the headlines constantly for years. That is a good thing for card values.

that's just you looking at the money side. what about the positive that will come out of the awareness of spousal abuse. guarantee it will make a lot of folks stop and think for a split second before throwing that overhand right. and to mick and i, that's way more important than a few million lost to a sponsor.

but, to answer your question: no, mick started with the corners and put the same color pieces together. puzzle completed in record time. guinness will be here next week for the official presentation.

Funny how some collectors here refer to PETE as a Hof'er...He's not. Stats or no stats. Price built in as an HOF? Really? I've yet to see his name on any ballot. So basically you are willing to pay an over inflated price on a person that has no chance of ever getting in. Jump in.
