Bad news is not limited to cards. It happens in every investment class.
Even if a player is dead, if one of his kids or ex-wife decide to write a tell all book, it could hurt their values as well.
A couple additional thoughts:
Does anything happen to the person who leaked this evidence?
How can Goodell change the penalty now after already deciding it was a two game penalty? Is there no concept of double-jeopardy in the CBA?

I don't think there are too many Ray Rice collectors left after his down season and domestic violence suspension. This will just get the kool aid drinkers in Baltimore to finally dump his cards.
You can do a lot of things in the NFL and keep you job, domestic violence is an automatic red card. Warren Moon got charged right before his career ended and that pretty much ended any shot at a big network job.
I find it hard to believe that he hadn't see this video before announcing Rice's suspension. If, and I think it's a BIG if, this is the first time he has seen the video, then the fact that TMZ is doing his job for him is enough to justify his ouster.
edit: by the way, despite the fact that the Ravens acted before Goodell in terminating Rice's contract, don't hold them blameless in this mess either. They just now deleted this tweet... which had been allowed to stay up for three months.

<< <i>Janal Rice deeply regrets that husband Ray is no longer getting a paycheck. I wonder who the new commissioner of football will be. >>
It is ironic that Janay's husband will no longer be pulling in a NFL paycheck. I don't know if Ray will be able to get any decent job for a while.
Seth Rogen -- I don't know much about football, but I know that Ray Rice is a piece of garbage who shouldn't be allowed to play it professionally anymore. @nflcommish your punishment for beating a woman is less than for smoking weed. Get your head out of your f*****g ass.
Keith Olbermann (this qualifies my post as being card related)-- Roger Goodell's position as Commissioner of the NFL is no longer tenable. Whether he saw the #RayRice video or he did not, he failed.
Lisa Guerrero -- Outrageous. The @NFL interviewed Janay Palmer with Ray Rice in the room? Really?
By the way, the beginning of the new video appears to show #RayRice SPITTING on his fiancé before hitting her twice and knocking her out.
Tom Arnold -- I miss what Joan Rivers would've said about Ray Rice today.

<< <i>Janal Rice deeply regrets that husband Ray is no longer getting a paycheck. I wonder who the new commissioner of football will be. >>
Exactly, this is the bottom line.
<< <i>Isn't Janay Palmer being punished twice? First, because she was brutally assaulted by her then fiancée, and now because her husband is out of a job, for at least the foreseeable future. Something is really wrong with that. >>
Thats her fault, if she wasnt a gold digger then she wouldnt have married this guy after he knocked her out and wouldnt be in this situation to begin with.
<< <i>I think that's what's referred to as blaming the victim, Paul. >>
Cmon! No way Im blaming her, Rice was absolutely wrong for striking her. My point is this, if Rice wasnt an NFL Player I highly doubt she would have married him and I dont have any sympathy for her in regards to Rice being cut. I do have sympathy for her as well as any woman who gets assaulted by a man.

Blaming the victim would need a justification for him hitting her. That was his fault and no one argues that.

And how do you two know that this woman is motivated primarily by money exactly?
Regardless as if she even is, that is immaterial to what Rice did.
He's able to evade or butt heads with 300+ pound men (plural) dressed in armor coming at him at top speed. I'm pretty sure he could have handled a, what, 120 pound woman with something less than a knock out blow to the head.
I hope she leaves and pursues criminal charges against him. I also hope Rice gets the help he needs and is given a chance to play ball again after any legal action and a lengthy suspension.

Umm Yea Im not sure what part of my post you dont understand
How about the explanation that perhaps she was suffering from Battered Woman Syndrome?

I consider your take to be completely misguided considering what happened here....you are more concerned of women being gold diggers for being with professional athletes instead of her being a battered woman? Nicole Simpson "moved on" from a famous athlete and look what happened to her.

that would mean not making contact with Ray's fist.
The other possibility is that the NFL simply chose not to watch it because they did not want to see what was on it and have to account for that. The media, NFL organization, and the Ravens are all phony as ####. "We are appalled by what we all have seen today" What a crock of ####. They knew about this long ago, and probably know of many others we don't know about. The NFL is incredibly powerful with a lot of money, and with power and money comes corruption.
Also, none of us know the circumstances behind this incident. What did his wife do and say? What mental state was Ray Rice in when it happened? What if Ray Rice had just found out she had slept with his best friend and was telling him she was going to do it again? What if he was drunk out of his mind when this happened? What if she was threatening him in some way? Or what if he tried some new drug that totally screwed up his mental state?
If all this came out, and it was found that she was in fact sleeping around with guys, or taking his money, or threatening to kill him, would that change your opinion about this incident? If he was on Cocaine and Adderall and has no memory of even doing this, what would you think? Again, none of this condones what he did and most of that is a long shot. But my point is everyone is quick to judge without the true facts. Personally, I have made some huge mistakes I wouldn't want the world to see when I was drunk. Nothing violent, but the point is every one of us have something to account for, whether it's public knowledge or not

That being said. In our new super judgmental society it gets decided that this person loses his ability to earn an income REGARDLESS of the fact that he was arrested, investigated, was processed through the (often faulty) system, is forgiven by his girlfriend (now wife) and suspended for two games, which did seem light.
Now it has been decided that because of a video showing what we already knew happened, it looks like he will not be employed for quite some time, if ever again, at least in the NFL.
"So what" you say, "he's a bum!" Well that bum and his wife should have the opportunity to fix their problems THEY BOTH HAVE ISSUES! Just because she is a woman does not give her the right to strike him any more than he should be allowed to hit her.
Her financial life has now been greatly affected in a negative way. Maybe she is a "gold digger" maybe she is a woman who loves a man and wants to make a good life for both of them.
His team releasing him hurts her in a huge way, doing this to make themselves look better makes me sick.
Looks to me like this couple is now going to find it HARDER to get help solving their anger problems.
<< <i>This incident took place in an Atlantic City casino. As we all know, cameras are everywhere in casinos. When this incident first happened, there is absolutely nothing that could stop the NFL, with their immense resources and hundreds of lawyers, from obtaining this tape. I would bet the farm that the NFL and members of the Baltimore organization saw the full tape months ago. Everyone turned a blind eye. The NFL chose to sweep it under the rug. Most likely to prevent more bad PR for the game and it's players. There's been a lot of garbage the last few years with players doing terrible things and the NFL just wants that all to go away. Well, this one has completely exposed them. TMZ says they can prove the NFL had this tape all along. This could really start to blow up.

He should have been suspended for a year from the beginning. Kicking him out of the league just because of the video is a knee jerk reaction. Obviously no one condones what he did but if the NFL and fans can forgive Michael Vick they can forgive anyone. If Ray Rice were still an All Pro level running back he would have been suspended by the Ravens not cut.

perkdog, it's been proven time and again that women who are battered usually stay with their abuser for whatever reasons. Who knows why but it extends well beyond those with rich husbands or boyfriends. Even aside from that, as others have mentioned, that's not remotely the point here. She's not perfect, you're not perfect, I'm not perfect. The issue is the clear unacceptable physical abuse committed by Rice regardless of any other circumstances. >>
But that wasnt an issue that I disagreed with, I simply agreed with a poster regarding her being upset at no longer getting NFL paychecks then everyone gets all defensive. Obviously I dont know if she is a gold digger just as we dont know if she suffers from battered womans syndrome, it could be either or both. If Ray was a Roofer would she still stand by him? I guess I dont know so maybe Im out of line calling her a Gold Digger, but in my mind she stayed with him AND still defends him and yells at the media for getting him banned from the NFL or "getting involved in their bussiness"
Bottom line I 100% agree She is/was a victim and what Ray did was barbaric and inexcusable.

I'm sure race carries weight for some, but I'm betting not much. I'd like to think the vast majority would be as repulsed by this regardless of the skin color of the parties involved.

<< <i>It is unclear why there is so much hatred for Ray Rice now rather than when they had a video of him dragging his knocked out fiancee from the elevator. How exactly did people think she got knocked out when they saw the first video?

knowing she was knocked out is one thing, but seeing the actual deed is something else entirely. I'll bet if we had video evidence of Vick murdering dogs he would have never drawn another NFL check.
