mglicker and jhs, this deadspin piece illustrates very well that it's not any 'PC' or 'leftist' pressure that is forcing these companies and orgs to toe any invisible line. The decisions are the product of their own desire to place the value of how the company brand appears to the public over the product itself. As this was Goodell's primary calling card for the last decade, one could call it ironic (justifiably or otherwise) that he might get bounced for this very reason.

Also, 'indefinite' does not equal 'forever', and I am amazed how many people are suddenly so concerned about the already multi-millionaire Rice family's ability to make ends meet now. As if they ever had a concern about an athlete's post-playing career options before..

Indefinite in this case could easily translate into forever! Any team interested in a running back is certainly not going to fight the public outcry and sign Rice this year. He will be 28 next year and his production was down last year, so his career could be over.

I for one have always been concerned about abuse victims and getting help for them and their abusers. It's quite possible Ray was abused and is continuing the pattern of abuse. It needs to be stopped. By releasing him, the Ravens no longer have the power to require he gets help.

I do not agree with a penalty like this for a first time offender. This also doesn't comply with the new policy, having video of the assault shouldn't be the difference. Also sad that the opinion here (and I agree) is that if he was a superstar player he would not have been cut.

Many here on the boards have expressed concern over an athlete's post-playing career options before. Having a little compassion is a good thing. Too bad so few here are actually seeking a solution.

I dont think anyone believes the Rice family will be in a bread line because of this but you cant argue the fact that being hit immedietaly with a loss of Millions of dollars of income should be a concern for them, it is a HUGE price to pay. Who knows how prepared they are for this going forward.

if this was just an average dude at the casino, he'd already be in prison. Rice's celebrity and sporting abilities paid for the lawyers that let him skate. That seems to be a pretty good deal for him, all things considered. Regardless, it sure is a good thing that Rice is a member of one of the most powerful unions left in the USA, so he's guaranteed a solid pension. that should help ease the mind of those concerned here.

He wouldnt have served time regardless because his wife refused to testify and or press charges. And regardless what any of you think this kid is 27 years old, and again lost out on the remainder of a 35 million dollar contract and god only knows how much from endorsements. There are guys who have squandered over 100 million in short time, Ray Rice is far from "all set"

Average Black Man in a casino who does that is doing time regardless of the wife's testimony.

Since less than 30% of domestic violence cases (in which police are involved) result in charges and even fewer result in convictions. The average black man has a fighting chance!

They would all be better off getting out of the endorsement business completely. By various metrics, Jordan, Kobe, Magic, Tiger, Barkley, Big Ben, Bonds, A Rod, Paterno and on and on carry a certain level of brand toxicity.

Recall that most of these names were once Demi Gods.

It's AP's day in the sun, but back to Ray Rice for a moment. What's that? No preferential treatment? The numbers never lie, my friends:

According to numbers from the New Jersey State Judiciary, over the last four years, an average of less than one percent of domestic violence cases statewide that involve assaults wound up with PTI as the outcome.

    Year Assaults Cases PTI Pct.
    2010 4030 10 .25%
    2011 3818 11 .28%
    2012 3673 19 .51%
    2013 3508 30 .85%

Boy if he can defy odds like that, it's time for Ray Ray to head back to the casino. Just hope he remembers there are lots of cameras.

The video was quite damning. Tough to keep anyone onboard after that. Michael Vick would be done if his transgressions were recorded. >>

I Agree it was horrific but I think a team would find some "Treatment" program for a Superstar >>

Quoting myself here, it looks like I was correct. Adrian Peterson WILL play this week, the Minny Brass is going to let the Judicial process play itself out before they make any real decision on Peterson.

Simple Mathe here, Rice had a down year last season and his productivity has been limited where Peterson ios arguably the best Running Back in the game, and after Minny got their butts kicked yesterday now they decide that Peterson will be good to go.
