Mini Rip~1978 and 1979 Topps & OPC Packs

Well, I decided to rip a few miscellaneous packs today~a few 1979 OPC wax packs and a lone 1978 OPC pack, as well as couple 1979 wax packs and one 1978 rack pack~nothing too high-end with prices the way they are, lol...

The American and Canadian versions of Mr. October~the Topps version is on the right and the OC (of course) OPC version is on the left.

The 1979 OPC set is very underrated and very tough. These packs yielded some pretty decent cards, though I see now that the Johnson card has a stain from the gum. This is why it's a good idea to scan these, lol..

And the best of the lot~a 79 Topps Smith RC! Hoping for a straight 8. Opinions?

Nice! Two of my favorite sets. I think the Ozzie is a 50/50 on a straight eight. That t/b border is right on the limit depending on where you measure. I don't think the tilt would prevent an 8. I believe it is down to centering. Fingers crossed.

Far from my area of expertise, but I'm curious...on the '78 Reggies, is it just me or does the OPC version look "off" with regards to color? Especially the lower half of the OPC card, the white isn't so white, a bit yellow or eggshell colored? Or maybe it's my monitor. Or my eyes image.

    Cool rips, BTW.

One more thing... I hope you're planning something good for post 20,000 (!).

Tim ... thanks for sharing. Nice cards.

On the Ozzie - Using J-Ruler I measure the T/B centering, at it's worst, to be between 76/24 and 74/26. I know that is just outside the guidelines for an 8, so I hope I am wrong. LMK when you decide to be send in a new order.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Awesome rip! (although based on the title of the thread, I was hoping to see hockey).

Thanks for sharing Tim, congrats on the Ozzie, and some of those nice centered commons. Good luck if you submit any, and I agree that 79 O Pee Chee is a very underrated set and doesn't seem to get much respect.

Thanks, guys!~I've always been partial to OPC from the 1970s, and these were pretty sharp and the price was right.

Nice job Tim. I'm guessing 7 on the Ozzie though

    Thanks again, guys!

I had picked up a few 79 Topps wax packs for $20 each, so a 7 would at least pay for the pack I opened. I am going to keep the others raw for my unopened collection.

79 OPC wax was a nice rip, too. The 78 rack was a disappointment, but the header was partially torn, so I thought I take a gamble at the Murray or Molitor.

Very nice cards Grote. I purchased another 1978 Topps Baseball wax pack last week, and I was able to use six of the cards for the set that I am building. The gum damaged three of the cards very badly. It was stuck to the top card and seeped through to the others. I pulled a Willie McCovey RB and a Dave Winfield, but the Willie McCovey RB had a very bad corner ding, and the Dave Winfield was off-center. I guess what I am saying is your cards make me very jealous. Congratulations on a great pull. Please keep us posted on the PSA grades. The Ozzie Smith will be a close PSA NM-MT 8 if you are lucky. Good luck with it.

Esquire Sports, I was thinking the same thing about Grote's 20,000 posts. I noticed it as well.

Nice rip Tim. I'm going to go with a 7 on the Ozzie as well.

    Thanks,
