Post some San Francisco Gold

While unloved in comparison to Dahlonega and the other branch mints, San Francisco gold is starting to become more on trend with previously dead issues now really coming to life.
The pre-1877 issues are generally all scarce and some are down right rare. The Civil War $5's are among my favorite sub-sets in US Gold and the 1858-1860 $5's and $10's are really undervalued along with the post Civil War $10's. Lots of cool coins to appreciate!

I submitted her for grading to PCGS in 2004 (as a raw coin), and subsequently sold her. -- At that time she was a Pop (1/0).

I remember that we had a customer who was putting together a set of pre-1870 SF $5's and $10's. Nice EF to AU stuff. Wonder if he still has it?

I love the Pan-Pac series. Just wish I could afford the $50 piece.

This apparent doubling (or re-engraving) of the obverse, I feel is more likely due to re-engraving or re-punching of the stars to perhaps rejuvenate a worn late state die to extend its life to strike more $20 Liberties in San Francisco, which was not conveniently closely located near the main mint in Philadelphia where they would have had easier access to new dies.
I believe that if the obverse star doubling was attributable to strike, the stars would likely not be double outlined on all sides (as they apparently are) but would likely be shifted in one direction or the other.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
