Since no Devin Mesoraco (208) or Doug Fister (456) chromes, refractors, etc., have appeared, were they the cards replaced by 2015 Cubs Rookies (139) and Red Sox Rookies (356) in the chrome check list?

So I'm at a card show today and I am talking to a dealer who is looking for 15 heritage for his set. We start talking a bit and I tell him that I have a bunch and card help him out. I ask him if he has
any for trade and he says he has nothing....I wonder how he got the cards he had. He said he needed some chromes and SP's. He does the chrome set every year. We start discussing how hard
the chromes are to pull this year and what a hard set that is to put together. I go out to my car and get all my heritage which are in number order and go over to his table and show him. He looks
through the 7 chromes I had and pulled 6 he needed and then I make a stack of inserts he needed (he didn't have any). On to the SP's I pull out a stack and and he says whoa, what are you asking
for these....I tell him I need 3 bucks each of the chromes and 2.50 on the SP's....He tells me he was looking to pick up the chromes for a buck a piece. I pack them up and say no thanks and he says
well can you do 2 dollars on the SP's....I think to myself, ok I am helping him out....I tell him yes and he proceeds to pull out the best short prints...Trout, Cabrera...etc... He doesn't even look at his
needs list. I sell him 60 dollars in cards and go on my way.

I can't stand when people claim they are doing a set only to get a price cut on the cards they need, like people will feel sorry for them. I guess I learned the hard way. I think it was Jim who said
if you sell a "pick any 10" lot on ebay, you will have guys picking the 10 best cards.

Needless to say, my trades here have been spectacular.

Thanks to heritage and detroitlion20 I had some good success with more trades to finsish my base set, some SPs, and a Kershaw Action, but still lacking a few inserts and 23 SPs.

I had some luck with retail, and was able to add some additional trade bait for anyone who can help with these SPs.

    SP Needs:
    426, 427, 428, 429, 431, 432, 433, 434, 439, 445, 446, 450, 454, 458, 459, 460, 463, 467, 469, 482, 491, 497, 500

    NFB Needs:
    8, 10

    NAP Needs:
    5, 9, 20

    SP Extras:
    443, 477, 479 x2, 498

    BFB Extras:
    1, 2, 5, 8, 10

    NFB Extras:
    1 x2, 4, 6, 7

    NAP Extras:
    8, 10, 12, 14, 16

    T&N Extras:
    1 x2, 7, 10

Also interested in Kershaw Action and Chrome

    Other items for trade:
    Errors: Heyward, Donaldson
Chrome /999: Rendon, Pujols, Scherzer, Strasburg, V. Martinez, Braun
    Refractor /566: Wacha
    Gold Relic /99: Bogaerts jersey
Retail Foil - just ask if interested.

Trading continues to be fun and I'd love to complete this set through the board, whether buying or trading (Heritage or other).

Holler if you can help me.

    Thanks
    Jim

ETA: Walt it pains me to see that Trout go like that. If you have another hiding I still need one. All the best.

that sucks Kevin, but what you will find is that the chromes (and refractors actually) have very little secondary market value. Doesn't matter HOW hard they are to pull from packs....i have boxes and boxes of them and they never sell for more than $1 each roughly.

However, early in the new heritage season, the chromes/refs will go for $2-4 each, because the setbuilders will crave them. but that subsides, and it probably already has for this year.

Still this guy was a big ingenuous to say the least....

I've been trying to buy Heritage in lots on the blow out form. Not having much luck. The lots I have bought have had little or no chrome refractors and few chormes in them. I don't know if people are just holding them or are having better luck selling on eBay. I have picked up a few lots, when they all arrive I will check back here to see who needs what to complete sets. I don't look at players names, I trade needs for needs or wants.

Blame this on mass wax busters. Rip mass product, blow them out on ebay, then move on to the next product. Us true heritage colector are left in the carnage, opening packs for 2.50 each and having to sell decent cards we pull for stupid prices. I would rather just keep them in a box rather than be someone's middle man.

In 2001, Heritage had 1-80 red back, 1-80 black back, 81-310 base, and 311-407 sp's, along with four insert sets, autographs, and chrome (and, maybe, Clubhouse Collection). In 2015, there are a 425 card base; 75 sp's; four insert sets plus two retail only insert sets; chromes, refractors, black refractors, gold refractors, purple refractors, and retail foil refractors; autographs; Clubhouse Collection and numbered to 99 Clubhouse Collection; eight ssp's; four traded ssp's; In Action, Color Swap, and Throwback Uniform variations; blue backs; gum stained; ad panels; buybacks; coins; stamps; punch boards; minis, bazookas; rub off's; and anything else that could possibly be included. What will Heritage be like in the next 15 years?
Maybe prior year traders have reached the point I am fast approaching: enough is enough, it's time to move on.

Since the thread has slowed a bit, was wondering what everyone's favorite Heritage Set is. I think this was done a few
years ago, but do not remember what the responses were. I think I remember Kevin's was the 03 set as he liked
    the 1954 design.

Mine would be the 01 set, with the iconic 52 design, and being the initial set of Heritage. I remember Kevin saying
it would have been something if Topps would have included Pujols in the set. The only year Ripken was included in
a Heritage set. I doubt the auto. selection in the 01s will ever be duplicated.

Most fun set to put together for me was the 05. Not everyone likes the horizontal design, but I liked it. Cards with
the head shot, action shot, and auto.-- had it all. The crazy variations, I think there were 18 were always fun to look
for, as were the low number SPs. Still can't figure out where they went!

Would be interesting to read what the rest of you think is your favorite. Hard for me to believe that Heritage has been
    around for 15 years.

Excellent question Craig, thanks for keeping the thread alive!

I've put together every Heritage set since 2005 (the 1956 design) and that first one for me still is the prettiest (I too loved the SP Variations with the throwback unis). It's the only modern set and pack-ripping I do, and I really enjoy this community and all of the trading partners I've made on this board over the last 10+ years. The herd has thinned out over the last several releases but new guys are joining the fray so I hope that Heritage will keep going strong at least until the 1975 design (the year I quit collecting as a teenager!)

Trading and helping others with sets has been a ton of fun and I think this is the one set I'll continue each year moving forward. Great group of guys here.

It looks like I may have to go back into all my other Heritage years and start organizing those as well. I've ripped 2004 forward, but only about 2 boxes each, so likely a ton of holes that need filling, but it's a start.

Just noticed that some of the cards I got have a grayish/green color on the back. Is this some kind of parallel discoloration or just my 62 year old eyes playing tricks on me.....the cards were numbers 26, 246, 306, 362 and 411. If I can figure out how I'll post some pictures with the cards next to the backs of regular white back colored cards that I got.....anybody know anything relative to this? thanks

    Quick question:

What years did Heritage have a high number set? Near as I can figure out its 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Is that correct?

I was able to pick up 2013 and 2014 at relatively low prices in the recent D&A sale....wound up with one decent hit(Nick Castellanos auto) and one not so decent hit. Even at $45 each shipped, seems kind of pricey though the rookies are outstanding...couldn't do without a heritage Puig and Ryu.

I won a near full set at a killer price on ebay so I have most of the 2008 high number set as well. And 2009 high number is not pricey at all. I don't think ill ever own the 2012 one though.
  • Options
    parkerjparkerj Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭
you are correct. 2008 and 2009 they came in packs only (mixed with regular topps updates).

2009 is tough to find because the sheffield (698) is super short printed....not officially, but in practicality they are few and far between and will go from 35-50 just for that card.

2012-2014 were boxed sets that came with an auto.

2012 is high because one of the autos can be bryce harper. you can find them cheaper as a set without the auto included.

2012 Update was limited, also wasn't it? I thought they were only Topps on-line at 10,000 total production for $100 each.

2013 were $100 each, Topps on-line exclusive, but higher quantities.

And the 2014 was $89 (I think) through dealers.

2008 & 2009 seemed difficult because you had to buy a few boxes to complete, at six cards a pack. Or least I still have quite a few holes in those two.
