World Series & Press Pins: Posted Pics of Yankee Pins

Came across a handful. Anyone know the market for these. Auction? Ebay?

Thanks in advance.

There was once a HUGE market for these items about 20 years ago with most pins fetching some great prices. I had thought about delving into that area of collecting in the late '80's and early '90's but the demand and prices kept me from it. I happened to see some press pins not long ago and was shocked at how the prices have come back to earth. The rare pins and the highly desirable teams (Yankees, Cubs etc) will still draw nice prices but I just dont know if the market is anywhere near what it was. I am sure others will chime in but from my experience the market just isnt there anymore. Again, I may be totally off base and I will let the more experienced give their opinions.

I would start with Ebay and go from there. Put a higher than normal buy it now on the pins and see if you get any nibbles.
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!
  • Thanks. Have never been a pin/ticket/etc collector so no clue myself.

Have some 60's Yankees, Dodgers, 60's All Star Game and a couple Colts.

These pins have never recovered from the hit they took in the late-1980s, early-1990s when decent quality counterfeits flooded the markets. It takes an experienced eye to tell the difference, usually apparent to the non-specialist only when compared side-by-side.

I recall seeing them regularly at several auction houses like SCP, REA and HA. I imagine they would do much better there than on eBay.
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.
  • The Baseball HOF gives out pins to its members. I have a whole box of those.

I assume you are speaking of the commemorative pins that are given away/sold for each HOF induction. The pins that are being spoken of here are World Series and All Star game press pins that are only provided to credentialed members of the media. These pins were used to identify the media which basically was the reporters "ticket", so to speak into the game and were made in very limited quantities. Usually they only made enough to cover the total number of media members that would cover the game and a few extra, and nothing more.

Because of their limited amount of production, their mystique as an item issued only to the media and the incredible craftsmanship that went into these pins (usually made by the same people that produce championship rings etc), it is for these reasons they became so popular.

  • No, I was referring to members only pins given to paying HOF members like myself. Regardless, not as rare or valuable as the pins you're describing, I know. My dad covered the Red Sox for a year for the Taunton Gazzette. I wonder if he got one.

those aren't Press Pins (although the Hall does actually issue Press Pins at every induction). I wish I could find a way to do something with those member pins.....no secondary market that I can see.

    Nice pins.

What does the back of the pins look like? Specifically the 61, 2 and 3?

Are they blank backed? And how does the pin work? Is it a 'friction button' sharp pin or a threaded post?

    Just curious.
