Hey Fellas,
So I went to the post office to claim a package containing my beloved 1950 Bowman Jackie Robinson SGC 4.5 today, and lo and behold I was handed a slit open bubble mailer wrapped in an official USPS plastic bag. On this bag was written the words, "WE CARE," followed by a letter apologizing for what happened to the parcel. On the parcel was also written, "RECEIVED OPEN WITH NO CONTENTS," by the Postal Manager. I was told by my friendly and solid USPS guy that what likely transpired was this: at the origination point, in the processing facility, some larcenous worker saw the package was marked as from eBAY and INSURED. He said this is often tantamount to writing STEAL ME on the package.
The seller was amazing and has agreed to a full refund upon receipt of the returned package; we spoke at length on the phone, and he could not have been more affable or quick to remedy the situation. That said, would be great to one day get the card. So on the slim chance anyone here sees it offered somewhere, please do not hesitate to let me know. I will alert the seller/owner in that event and see what we can do, if anything. Thanks...
Best,
Matt

I'm sure glad it worked out well. I'm sure you'd rather have the card.
Best of luck finding another.
edit: no disrespect to the seller but if I were selling cards over a 100 bucks? They'd go in a sealed box - also protects the holder.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
Another reason to always use a box imo

Just edited that into my post Eric. You can get a priority box from the PO for graded cards or buy them cheap enough IMO.

I would guess that where they "handle" the mail - sorting and stuff - there's plenty of cameras.
But once it leaves the station? If we've seen them dump mail on the side of the road or in dumpsters, there's nothing stoping those few reprobates from slitting a bubble wrap inside their truck?

Nothing shocks me anymore.
Sorry to hear that brother. That card was a beaut.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I think the post office should just use the bar code to know if it is insured or not. Then no one can know unless its scanned. Maybe even to the length that only the original scanner and the final scan show it is insured.
Either that, of if it is a VERY expensive item, have it mailed registered. It's handled like Fort Knox.

Actually the same happened to me and I called SGC and they immediately dropped everything; closed their doors for the day, and set up a search party for my card.
A few hundred bucks x 50 to 100 times a year adds up. Postal workers are like baggage handlers. They have access to our stuff
and they know they have very little chance of getting caught if they take it.
