What I won't be doing with my unopened stuff

<< <i>What I won't be doing with my unopened stuff >>

Open it!

Hi everyone

I was happy to pick up one 79T tray to add to that collection.

I wrote a while back in my collecting experience which I haven't added anything to in some time. I collected this stuff purely without thinking. Had ZERO focus and this stuff was available.

The rack case compliments of Mr Mint. The vending case and 2 boxes from Bob Balanda who used to sell in SCD in the 90s.

Some would think that it's hard 'not' to open this stuff. I'm from the group that feels the charm and allure of unopened is to keep it that way.

I'd like to add to this thread as I go.

Thanx for viewing.
Mike

    Mike,
Great collection of 79 stuff! Thanks for sharing.
Maybe a group rip in the near future?
  • I know you have much more stuff from many different avenues within the hobby, but that picture of strictly 1979 shows quite a bit of focus actually.

    Thanx guys!

Just got a PM about Balanda and that he may sell bad stuff.

Back in the old days a guy wouldn't survive long in SCD from what I understand if one sold bad stuff.

I really don't know what the experience level was of Bob back then - but he was selling stuff from a buy who worked for Topps and had a basement full of stuff. Bob told me he was trying to flip stuff quickly since he wasn't making a load of dough on each sale.

Back then the case was selling for 1800 if memory serves and the boxes at around 220 or 240?

Important point IMO - collecting is a bit - on occasion - of a crapshoot - we're trusting.

Some of my purchases are gonna be pure garbage. But, it won't stop me from collecting. It's just too darn much fun!

Great stuff Mike. I remember you had some unopened 70s stuff from a while back. I also remember Blanda in SCD. Wow, how I miss those SCDs. I couldnt wait to get the new one. I would look at it for HOURS combing through it like I was doing brain surgery. Anyway, as far as Blanda goes, I dont ever remember hearing anything bad about him either.

Mike, that's a beautiful assortment! Is the 1979 rack case sealed?

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

That's awesome. All you need is some cello representation to complete the grouping!
Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.

    No Tim.

    Only 2 boxes left.

I will give people stuff but never sell. But, a board member - years ago - asked if I would sell him a few packs - I said yes - and little by little he kept requesting till the box was gone. I sent one pack to a board member who was depressed at Christmas time - also many years ago.

I don't blame you for keeping your collection of 1979 Topps Baseball cards sealed Stone. May it bring you many years of enjoyment.

    You bet Mike!

    Thanx to everyone.

I got 2 PMs about Bob Balanda - both saying he sold "resealed" crap.

Curious. I'm no expert on packs. But, I will say - they look clean, tight and have perfect roller marks - that's the extent of my expertise - which is to say - I have none.

I was considering having them sealed by BBCEx. I may ask for advice - also - on the vending case.

But, as I said - if it's all crap? That's the price of having a hobby where escalating prices attract crooks. I didn't expect to see as much of that back in 1990. But, that's when the boom started and ya never know.

As I said - I've got little experience - but this stack looks good and tight.

I couldn't get a good pic of the seal - may try the scanner - but there's clean "roller" marks and the seal is tight.

I'll be interested to hear what BBCEx has to say.

Now, I wish this was my supply! image
