Home PCGS Set Registry Forum

Do you think the other grading services will ......

start their own registry set program? Quality of grading aside, ANACS, SEGS, PCI, and especially ICG need to create a " need" for their slabs to remain competitve. You could probably put a Proof 70 ICG registry set at a very reasonable price. I pretty much ignore non PCGS and non NGC coins. Notice I didn't mention _ccucr@p? I don't want to give them any ideas. If THEY started one, you would use a good alias so no one but you knew whose set it was! LOL

Out of anybody, I think ICG would be the first to strat theirs. SEGS can barely get their website to work and PCI and ANACS have loyal customers, but not enough to have a successful registry program. The same holds true for ICG since they have only been around for a few years. Alot of moderns have been graded by them like you said, but there are not alot of other series where people are collecting a complete set.

The problem with an ICG registry, everybody would be tied at first place with all PR70DCAMs or MS70s. There would be no competition.

The problem is that there is no need for PCI or ICG to slab any more coins. The only reason for PCI or ICG to exist is to severely overgrade coins and ignore problems. ANACS and SEGS do well with varieties, but coins in their slabs are usually lower priced, circulated, or varieties. None of which needs a registry. PCGS created the registry as a marketing gimmick. This marketing gimmick would not work for the other companies.
